When I was a kid my parents had a complete set of Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedias, and the entry for science fiction included this page from Gil Kane's Captain Marvel run. Always thought it looked so cool, his design sense alone was top notch.

Inked page art by Gil Kane showing Rick Jones clanging his wrist bands together to summon the red and blue Mar-Vell in a page from Captain Marvel.

Rick: "FAN-tastic! Something's happening to me -- like I was changing -- like I wasn't Rick Jones anymore --but--"

Mar-Vell: "CAPTAIN MARVEL! " "I'm free of the negative zone! FREE!!"

Gaia episode 41: Agul doing a Daimajin "parting of the sea in order to save someone put up on a cross" was really cool .. certainly drives home the show's "retribution vs forgiveness" religious symbolism theme.

I think the first VHS I bought on my own (not a gift or a blank with random stuff I was given) was the CPM release of Bubblegum Crisis vol 1. First dvd was Bandai's Escaflowne vol 4 because they stopped carrying the VHS releases (I had 1-3 in that format)

It only lasted for the 15 issues until the series ended at #100, and the move away from Ostrander's Cold War exploration into something more metaphysical, ecological, and mythological is a bit odd. But I honestly did enjoy reading these when I dug them up.
