I see. 😅 I'm still going to investigate the opportunity though since it's somewhere I really want to visit.

Day 6 - Boil Cycle designed for Lux Choralis/Benthim. The goal with my custom sets is to craft a fully playable constructed environment. Part of that is mana. The first two sets have the Shocklands, but I wanted something different for fetches. I feel these are still good but not format warping.
A custom MTG card.

Boiling Pools
Land
{T}, Pay 1 life, Sacrifice this land: Search your library for an Island or Mountain card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle. Then if that land is a basic land and/or you control three or more other lands, untap it.

Excited for you! It might come *just* too early for me to get financially comfortable AND plan the time off this time. Hopefully tomorrow goes well though and I might be in work in a couple of weeks and I'll have a better idea about Christmas.

Appreciate it Jen. We can have differing ideas about this topic, but not at the expense of civility. People like having product on the shelf for an number of reasons. Not all those reasons will align.

I'm not going to tell people what to do with what they spent their money on, but if I was in that position, I'd be wanting to arrange chances to open that stuff and play it. I'd be taking it to the LGS, to events, spamming my group chats about drafting, and I don't even really like limited.

cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I concur. If there's some plan to use the product for flashback drafting with friends, then holding onto a bit of sealed product long term is fine by me. Holding on to a sealed product with no plans to play it is akin to slabbing a card to me, it's reducing it to a prop, rather than a game.

A noble attempt to temper such an absurd commander, but yeah, this kind of mana base just doesn't function without the crutch of Cultivates. I'd suggest the Vivid lands since they retain the Lorwyn flavour, but give you a couple of outs to at least get the game going.

In 2017, I created Moxtober, a Magic version of Inktober. Create anything MTG-related (art, writing, etc) to fit daily prompts. Most popular w/ Magic design hobbyists! This is Year 10 of Moxtober. I'm 100% hands-off & the community still keeps it alive. 😭 Here's the 2026 prompt list they created.
Moxtober 2026 prompts: 1 - witches, 2 - double, 3 - toil, 4 - trouble, 5 - fire, 6 - boil, 7 - cauldron, 8 - bubble, 9 - blood, 10 - bold, 11 - resolute, 12 - poison, 13 - toad, 14 - eye, 15 - newt, 16 - knock, 17 - wood, 18 - beware, 19 - wing, 20 - something, 21 - wicked, 22 - share, 23 - sting, 24 - salt, 25 - maw, 26 - laugh, 27 - pain, 28 - secret, 29 - midnight, 30 - hemlock, 31 - thane

Here's an ongoing thread about my entries into something the community does that's niche, interesting and creative. Some people make custom cards, some do art, some alters, but it's all done by people who truly love the game. #moxtober

It's days like today that remind me that people don't actually want unique ideas. What people actually want is to do is engage in negative echo chambers, use that moment to say they'd support unique content, and then ignore the actual unique niches in their community.

I'm always very excited when I buy a foil and it's clear the seller opened Belgian printed cards. Every time I get sent a clearly US printed foil, I wish I'd just ordered the nonfoil instead. Personally, I wish CM had toggles for the good foils (Belgium, Japan) and bad (US).

Day 5 - Fire Designed for Benthim. Benthim is a High Seas set focused on a waterworld style plane, dominated by priates and explorers. I had a more flavourful version of plunder which stole cards from opponent's libraries, but that ended up reading clunkily (and likely hard to balance).
A custom MTG card

At Close Quarter 1R
Sorcery - Uncommon

At Close Quarters deals 3 damage to any target. If excess damage was dealt to a permanent this way, plunder. (Create a tapped Treasure token or amass Pirates 1.)

The Dingus Egg salt scores; 1 point - Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger - 95% of Edgar Markov players 0.5 points - Descent into Avernus (it's a fake card) 0 points - Every other card not on the banlist

cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
The salt score *thing* is so silly to me, why do people need to try and quantify cards "that they don't like"? The same 20 cards end up at the top each year, and maybe 4 get regular play in an amount of EDH. It's a wholly negative activity that gets promoted annually.

Day 4 - Trouble Designed for Innovara. This is a simple flicker spell, that can then be kicked to become a mass protection spell like Eerie Interlude. Not a flashy design. I've had the art in the file for months, but never got the flavour of previous designs right.
A custom MTG card.

Avoid Trouble 1U
Instant - Uncommon
Kicker 1U
Exile target nontoken artifact or creature you control. If this spell was kicked, instead exile each nontoken artifact and/or creature you control. Return each card exiled this way to the battlefield under their owner’s control at the beginning of the next end step.

Day 3 - Toil Designed for Innovara, which is a Cyberpunk Corpotocracy. I felt the acronym TOIL was well placed here. The set already has burnout counters (which turn off activated abilities, except mana abilities, of permanents that have them). GWU is a counters manipulation archetype.
 A custom MTG card.

Time Off in Lieu GU
Enchantment - Mythic
Flash
When this enchantment enters, you may put two burnout counters on any number of target nonland permanents you control. If you do, put a hexproof counter on each permanent that had burnout counters put on it this way.
1GU, Remove a counter from target nonland permanent you control: You gain 2 life and draw a card.

It's really as simple as maps for places you hadn't been before, and landmarks for local places. Split journeys into sections, like a landmark or service stop and mentally (or via map) reroute if there was an issue. GPSs best function was once it was able to provide live traffic updates.

Day 2 - Double Designed for Khesgard: Battle for Faith Khesgard is a plane where various pantheons compete for the faith of very small, largely nomadic groups of mortals. Who has the most faith has the most control of the plane. Naebu just tries to double as much as possible within URs colour pie.
A custom MTG card.

Naebu, Double Minded UR
Legendary Creature - God
Flash
As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may pay 3. If you do, copy it. (The copy enters as a token.)
When Naebu enters, copy target instant ot sorcery spell you control. You may choose new targets fot the copy.
If you control exactly two permanents named Naebu, Double Minded, they each get +1/+1, have double strike and the "legend rule" doesn't apply to them.

Day 1 - Witches Two designs today. Witch's Thread is a design for Allvori Emergence, which uses Vivid and is a colours matter set. Crone of Crows is a bonus, as it has no home at the moment, but I like the art, and the effect came pretty naturally.
Custom MTG card.

Witch's Thread 1R
Sorcery
Gain control of target creature if its power is equal to or less than 1 plus the number of colours among permanents you control until end of turn. Untap it. It gains haste until end of turn.
Cycling RCustom MTG card.

Crone of Crows 2B
Creature - Human Warlock
When this creature enters, each opponent discards a card.
Whenever one or more players discard a card, create a 1/1 black Bird creature toke with flying and menace.

Games have to end, people have to go home. It's far more interesting to use strategy in *the* strategy card game, than have 4 people rotating turns playing "do the thing solitaire". I think more people would enjoy EDH more, if they just tried to win a little more often, and accept those who do.
210
cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
And yes, I love "doing the thing". "Doing the thing" is fun and exciting and cool, but more people need to recognise that - at bare minimum - for some players, "doing the thing" is also intrinsically tied to "try and win the game." You're allowed to have an output for "doing the thing".
110
cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I'm a control player at heart, my forever deck is Niambi, Esteemed Speaker. It's not a quick deck, but every action I take is with the intention to win the game. Some of my decks are combo, where the rest of the deck is about finding/protecting those pieces, with the intention to win the game.
100
cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
If I'm putting a deck together, the real test of the efficacy of that deck is how it is able to push for wins (even if it doesn't eventually win). Competitiveness doesn't always mean playing the best card in every slot, and definitely doesn't automatically mean I should go play cEDH.
110
cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Winning is regularly considered a faux pa in EDH, by a lot of people. It's fine if one personally wants something different for themselves, but all too many people then enforce that standard on other players. Some people like putting together decks, with the express oucome of winning a game.

cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Okay, I don't read every Maro blog post so was operating on the vague reference from the panel at MagicCon. I think at that point, it's less of a replacement for Flying and should be treated as its own mechanic, and the set just doesn't contain flying.
000
cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
I'd go as far as to say it *should* be flying by another name. It's a evasion keyword, simplicity is part of the effectiveness of flying.
100
cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
The thing is, it can. Sometimes simple is better, and honestly if it wasn't for the fact that the entire plane is underwater, they'd have probably just used flying here. I'm willing to say there will be more effects that care about not-flying in the set, but not-flying itself will be very simple.
101
cryptic, dingus, egg (moxtober 2026) @dingusegg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
From a gameplay perspective, I don't think they'd make something with levels to be a one-off replacement for flying. It needs to serve the same function as flying does (evasion that allows games to end). I think your terminology will be close (Dive), but without the levels. Simple evasion ability.

The last game for Abigale (possibly ever, possibly in this configuration). She didn't really shout loud, more mumbled the lines. Deck is trying to do too many things at once and ends up not doing any of them. I want to make it work because the deck name is too good. I'm just not sure how.

The 2026 Moxtober prompts have been released. This time it's Macbeth themed, awkward because witches don't form a major part of any of my roadmapped custom sets. However, I'm still committing to each design being part of the proposed sets I have planned. Each post will contain the set name.

Absolutely loved playing Reality Fracture this evening. It's a running joke that I play more than 40 cards at prerelease, but this time, I think it was justified. Such a wild amount of removal in this pool, with just enough win conditions to help me close out a 3-0, 6-0 tonight. #MTGFRA

Always like hearing you talk about Talrand, mate. It's possibly the budget, possibly the history of Talrand decks, that caused you to take this route. But I want to say that even if you played exclusively hard counters, that would be completely valid too. We got to stop the Counterspell stigma.

I do think there's an order of magnitude between Emmy's cast trigger over Ulamog/Kozilek's that I can see there being an issue with. Personally, I think Emmy is fine to stay banned for the cast trigger. But I also think that Annihilator is not nearly as bad as people pretend it is in 2026.
