This will create a flood of reports, in part due to the way the US healthcare system reimburses based on clinicians reporting a certain code. A clinic needing to increase revenue will now be able to report every sore arm to VAERS and add that code to the billing document. Will add cost and noise 🤦

Friday measles update; as expected cruised past 4,000 cases: now 4,080. The year I graduated medical school (2002) there were 44. Yes, 44. We’ve multiplied cases by 100 😳 Disinformation is effective 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

That’s why I work at the VA. We have a global budget. No pressure to do more to generate revenue- just do what is best for the patient. Patients have no fear of bankruptcy. It’s amazing 👍🏻

Plenty of jobs in healthcare that are not at the bedside, but help provide care. Quality assurance. Infection prevention. Data analysis. Lots of people doing jobs for insurers could be absorbed into patient care

One of the worst parts about our overly complex medical system is that the complexity allows people to seize on different obscure arguments about why any reform will be impossible. “You can’t move to a single payer system; so many people are employed by health insurers” (move to providing care🤷🏻‍♂️)
