No cheating. Post your lock screen.

A small white Maltese puppy wearing a grey jacket, stands with her front paws on the bottom step of a concrete staircase. A leash extends from her up four more stairs. Except for a part of a mitten, the leash holder is out of the frame. This photo shows the first time the puppy tried stairs.

Despite its misleading cover, this book reveals how indigenous peoples, French settlers and — of course — Champlain himself came together to create the culture of Canada

The cover of the book entitled ‘Champlain’s Dream’ by David Hackett Fischer, subtitled ‘The European Founding of North America’ with some text blurbs praising the author and the book as well. However the cover image is not an image of Samuel de Champlain, the book’s subject, but a reproduction of the 17th century painting ‘The Geographer’ by Johannes Vermeer. This shows a man (thought to be Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek, a contemporary geographer and a friend of the artist) wearing a blue robe and leaning over a table which holds a map with cartographic tools

Today, like every day, I sit in awe of this absolute legend. Buddhists say that we choose our parents. I say I chose well ❤️

Soon after the grooming…

A little white dog sits on a pale green sofa with a multi-coloured blanket beside her, scrunched into the corner of the sofa. She’s pushed the blanket there. Evidence? Her hair is charged and standing up, leaving her looking like a late stage dandelion

… and happy international puppy day from wee Pip as well (photobombed here by Hugo)

A little white dog lies on a dark wood floor. She looks directly into the camera. Her hair is off her face in two ponytails. She wears a pink harness. Another dog’s face takes up the right side of the photo as he vies for the spotlight (rockstar that he is).

Happy international puppy day from my little rockstar, Hugo

A Yorkshire terrier puppy in a perfect sit, looks up at the camera. You can’t see his eyes. His hair is tossled in a stylish mess, insouciant, like a little rockstar

Hugo and Pip exercise patience, waiting to go out for a walk

Two small dogs, one a Yorkshire terrier (top right), the other a Maltese (lower centre). Both look up at the camera in anticipation. Both wearing identical grey winter onesies which have silver reflective stitching. They are waiting politely to go outside for a walk.

Nothing better than fresh snow early morning… wee dogs and I made tracks. Happy Christmas everyone ❄️🩵

The bottom half is a flat expanse of fresh snow with foot and paw prints in the lower right corner. Evergreen trees of various sizes go across the horizon and make up the top half

I really have only one wish this year…

Delighted to find treasures in the post today. The weekend weather projections are perfect for tucking in to a good book, and now, thanks to @catherinemmunro.bsky.social, I’m ready!

My Hugo sends greetings. It’s drizzling here too but freezing so he’s staying in. Seems there’s room enough for many Hugo-named dogs on his enormous cushion

A burnt orange page with “The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver a novel” in text. A silhouette of southwestern US landforms in the upper right background and a red Volkswagen Beetle in the mid ground, to the left, facing left as if to drive off the cover

Best wishes from here, especially from Hugo, a very good boy whose birthday is tomorrow. He is hoping for a celebratory game of “tuggy”

Goodness! That’s something Michael. I love the wee people in the corner for scale too. I’ll share mine here if you don’t mind… not sure if the image quality would hold up but the holy-ness does

Yep.

Two little dogs lying on the floor beside a window. The white dog, a female Maltese, is in front and appears larger than the Yorkshire terrier behind. She has two little pony tails and is resting her chin on the ground between her front paws.

I change my opening word every day and I actually got a hole in one on October 25, 2024! I had to screenshot it for posterity and am sharing only because I think you’ll appreciate it… otherwise I only showed my mom lol

Good morning Ted from Canada 🇨🇦 Pip is shocked we’re still in winter, but enjoyed the birdsong in your video. Thanks for the inspiration — it’ll carry us through 🙂
