Man I really miss forums. I'm sure some exist but the only ones I know for my interest is like an old sprite forum, 1 game with a personal forum, and steam boards. Other forums seem like they're trying to be more social like slowly becoming Reddit.

it might be both? cause the proxy stuff i'm seeing is just separate unweighted geometry and that's what improves the performance in viewport. and what i'm looking for is using an invisible version of that same geometry as the control selection on top of the full quality model.

finally figured out the right word for it. proxy. and yes there are addons for it on superhive. my gripe is still that this isn't just a standard feature of rigging. makes everything so much easier.

i don't even see a reason this can't be done in blender easily. an addon could copy geometry based on vertex groups and bake that to the rig instead of wireframe spheres. for some reason though i've never seen it done.

no i mean the actual control handles that you have to click on to manipulate a joint. these guys. i want to be able to click on the geometry of the model itself and select controls that way, there is software called Rumba that does this but it's built around a Maya workflow and doesn't run on my pc
