Finished the game and nothing in the back third of it did anything to change my opinion on it.

Oh, they're doing reissues of the GuP Nendo Tanks.

Anyway, I'm sure there'll be a bit where Fuusuke and Naruto both do their respective spinny fist ball techniques at the same time and I'll quietly fist-pump to myself because I can be simple like that some times.

Apparently they just announced a Naruto x Ninku anime, which probably explains why the show started showing up on Youtube yesterday.

The 2018 show is great if you've not seen it, by the way, and is probably the most Available Kitaro, since it's all still up on CR. If you want a couple of standalone episodes to watch to check out it's wild range, try ep 7 (spooky hell train), and ep 55 (absolutely insane gag-fest)

It's kind of shocking exactly how far they were able to push things in this movie, which is *theoretically* tying in to the 2018 TV show that aired in Kids Hours. I've seen this movie a couple of times before and there's moments that still shock me a little. Very much worth checking out if you can.

(The new Keroro VAs are fine, it's my problem for having seen so much of the OG Frog over the years)

With ITEM airing, I was kind of wondering how much of the Index stuff was still available streaming. Guess the US has all of it on CR, for the UK it just looks to be Index S3 (trainwreck), Railgun S3 (Railgun so good), and Accelerator (lol). The Accelerator page is very... broken looking, though!

Ultimately, though, I think it’s probably just be hypocritical of me to complain about not being able to get tickets to some events only to advocate for a smaller capacity venue just for this lol

DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
…expand the reach of theatrical anime and people’s potential interest in it, which becomes kind of difficult if you sell out the venue two weeks in advance. At least some last minute slack is desirable.

DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
This isn’t so much a problem for us out-of-town crazies who keep a close eye on the festival and buy tickets the day it goes on sale, but part of the states goal of the festival has always been to try to attract casual fans - or people who barely watch anime - into the screenings to try and…

DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
On the other hand - the Filmhouse was already struggling on capacity for the festival pre-Covid, and the post-bankruptcy refit seats fewer, rather than more, people. Even before the refit I’m pretty sure the capacity was lower than the Cameo.

DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
I totally get it on the grounds of (a) the bulk booking process for the Cameo is a pain, (b) the Filmhouse referb is comfy, and (c) support independent theatres yo.

In other cinema chat, I have seen a little gnashing of teeth over recent SLA posts on Twitter suggesting that the Edinburgh leg is going to be predominantly back at the Cameo rather than the Filmhouse.

Probably going to have to skip Hathaway today as the only local screening finishes late enough that getting home would probably be an issue.

Kind of a weird messaging remake in that on one hand they’re out in US interviews saying that they’re following the manga with a few adjustments for pacing/elaboration, and on the other they seem to be poking the audience with a big “remember THIS from specifically the 90s anime?” stick.

DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
Saw the OP for the new Rayearth and a little amused that they seemingly decided to go all in on the bird iconography from the first cut of the 90s OP for it.

"What's for dessert?" "Dessert." "Yes. What sort?" "Vanilla flavoured." "Vanilla flavoured what?" "Dessert." "Yes. What sort?"
This is precisely the issue that would arise if the British and American uses of "pudding" were to overlap.

Jokes aside, I do think it’s at least a little funny how much Raildex side-material ends up feeling like a panicked realisation that Frenda might have actually been the best character.

Kamachi is one of those ludicrously productive authors, though. The mainline Index stuff often comes across as a little on the spur-of-the-moment idea dumps side of things, and the spin-offs end up feeling like “OK, I’ve actually had time to properly consider these characters now”

DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I don’t think it’s too far off the way that Kamachi writes characters even in the Index novels, I think a lot of the difference is not having the pressure of being the SRS BSNS main story. This and Railgun have a lot more freedom for “hang out” time.

Yeah, I think that's largely the case everywhere. From a financial point of view it makes sense to release it in January (particularly if they renting theatre space as opposed to doing regular box office share) given how rammed the US movie schedule is for the rest of the year, but still kinda sucks

I do wonder how many screenings they’ll manage to fit in between split between the dub/sub versions in that small window as well. Got to be rough for anyone not living in one of the major cities, though.

When your marketing message suggests “you really don’t want to be spoiled on this lol” then how do you expect people to react?
100
DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
I do think the frustration over the wait is understandable given part of the Japanese marketing stressed about not to talk about a bunch of things publicly for a couple of weeks.

DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
That’s kinda conspiracy theory brained of me, though. Could just be that Aniplex decided they could make more money if then can almost sell-out a much more limited number of screenings they get 100% of box office on.
100
DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
It does kind of have me wondering if this was the original plan or if Sony proper decided if it was too esoteric a movie that’s based on an old TV show that also requires having seen an old movie and decided that it was too hard a sell versus what else is being released in theatres this year.
100
DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Though I’d also assume that the already-announced Mahoyo screenings at the end of the month gives them a hard cutoff in terms of cannibalising their own box office.

Reflecting more seriously on this - Fathom do four-walling, right? Dub timetables aside, I presume the January dates are probably the exact moment screen rental costs drop as screenings of Avengers/Dune/xmas nonsense tails off.

DiGiKerot @digikerot.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
Aniplex distro'ing that Madoka movie through Fathom in the US makes me pretty pessimistic in regards to a UK theatrical release - there's a pretty atrocious hit-rate when it comes to the movies Aniplex release that way actually making it over here.

Teenagers asking their friends 'what's a vicar?' on this train, some might take this as a sign of the decline of religion but actually it's a sign of the decline of sitcoms.

Taking psychic damage from seeing Kimi ga Nozomu Eien “obscure anime”, but I guess the kids have absolutely zero need to be familiar with the VN boom era stuff, so I guess it kind of is in English-language circles at this point. (Unless you’ve read MuvLuv, I suppose)
