Probably the number 1 skill to learn as an individual contributor. As someone interviewing for positions, it can be frustrating to not get that space to work a problem. Wish there was a better way to evaluate skills.

Patterns in infrastructure evolved from a problem where trade-offs were measured. It's perfectly okay to have simpler infrastructure and not jump to those patterns because it's the "right way". Let yourself run into those problems and change the system based on real issues.

Okay, so I think what’s it’s getting at is that a loose schema that lets a service reply with arbitrary key value pairs as the contract is less coupled than a strict contract.

Software architecture folks… what am I missing here. This book claims that strict contracts creat tighter coupling, but I see loose contracts as having the same level of coupling. Whatever data you access across service boundaries is the dependency you are coupled to, the contract prevents errors.

For context: Step son is 11. This is a scratch version of a battle royale (Fortnite like) that had gone dormant on support. He fixed map collision bugs, added equipment loadouts, better interactions with the environment and introduced game saves.
