you can easily create a game with 'wound triggers' with this. [-1] gains +5 movement [-2] deals +2 damage with Crushing attacks] [-3] deals 15damage to all creatures within 10ft its not as easy in hp. much like how math and physics are KINDA the same, but have different states and purposes

really good comment on my new video. I get it, but at the same time, hp doesnt allow as much granularity as wounds do. its all about the states right? hp has [has hp] [has 0 hp] and with dnd 4th [has half hp] with wounds, every step is an important change [-1][-2] are entire worlds apart. #ttrpg

since the max size is a d12, that should be sufficient uses right?? cause statistically you'll get at least half the uses d12 = 6 uses d10 = 5 d8 = 4 d6 = 3 d4= 2 but we'll ignore d4 since youll likely fail those. so thats 18 ability uses (assuming i dont have "hard abilities" with like 2d8)

if it rolls a 1, then the die size decreases, so a d8 becomes a d6. a d6 becomes a d4. if you roll 1 on a d4, the ability fails instead, so a 25% chance.

in my new trpg game i plan on using a mechanic ive called Depletion instead of regular cost systems. essentially, a class of abilities/resources has a dice size associated with it (say a d8). when you use the ability it succeeds so long as it doesnt roll a 1.

i think magic always acts fundamentally different to reality. unless its written to be as easy as breathing or running, i imagine its distinct from say, the skills needed to vault a fence

I'm not saying it doesn't HAPPEN, but "all weird indie TTRPGs are a kink thing" is reductive. There is also "designing RPGs to publish your worldbuilding bible", "designing RPGs because you invented a neat dice trick", "designing RPGs to win an argument", and "designing RPGs as an act of self harm".
