in a functional political party system, candidates who publicly contradict the party's most recent platform (this text is from the '24 dem platform) in their campaigning should be censured and/or stripped of their formal affiliation

Perhaps Mr. Schmautz is talking about another bureau where people get fired for bad behavior? I recall Mark Kruger, known Nazi, working at PPB for decades before retiring happily. More recently an officer told a protestor he would’ve also shot Renee Good. He got some training, is back on the force.

i would hazard a guess that OR gets proportionately higher per capita OVW/VAWA funds to police & prosecute sex crimes, has dedicated state funds for it that encourage CBOs to cooperate with law enforcement, and local LE dedicates more resources to this issue than other low-population states

i did the math once and collecting the existing fine for off leash dogs at sewallcrest alone for 1 week would pull in ~$50,000. not sustainable funding but i think you can put up a chain link fence for that!

pressure councillors & commissioners to provide real oversight on applying existing law. push for bureaucratic change like parks fines paying for fences (phase out non-fenced dog parks), fund enforcement & 24 hour call line for non-criminal infractions (not cops)

personally i’m just going to file lots of complaints and be a general pain in the ass. but the real answer imo is start a group called ‘Portlanders for Responsible Dog Ownership’, FOIA every parks + county complaint about dogs, outreach to those ppl, and show up at city hall & county commission

MCAS has the policy tools to take action - an uncontrolled dog who menaces someone in the right of way is a level 1 potentially dangerous dog under code. basically it results in an embarrassing sign at your house for 1 year and a ban from parks for the dog. but they refuse to do even that

so i filed a complaint with MultCo Animal Services and they did ‘education’ with the owner since it was a 1st complaint for that dog. i asked how many complaints to go beyond ‘education’ and the MCAS officer said THEY HAVE NO POLICY and a dog has to bite someone before they do anything. importantly-

where i live school zones are not drop off to pickup. the school zone signs have lights on them and are only active when they are flashing, roughly 7-9am and 3-5pm though i think it depends on the schools hours

today me and my partner got attacked by an off leash dog in sunnyside, and when i looked up the owner it turns out she’s the executive director of Portland’5 Centers for the Arts anyways, if you walk around se 38th and taylor, watch out for this woman and her large, aggressive, uncontrolled dog
