www.houstonchronicle.com/politics/tex... Our “anti socialist” Texas state govt has put maybe $1billion into a curriculum that would compete with private publishers. It includes a conservative rewrite of the social studies curriculum and plentiful bible stories. And financial incentives to districts

houstonchronicle.com

Exclusive: Spending on state-led Bluebonnet curriculum could top $1B

The amounts are the first public accounting of the program, which is part of a broader overhaul of the state’s K-12 education system under Gov. Greg Abbott.

This summer, I dipped my toes in Lake Ontario from the Canadian side. It was quite lovely. Today, I verified that Google Maps is, indeed, calling it Lake America. I deleted Google and Google Maps from my phone. It is a small rebellion, but it made me happy.

Wavelets of the Great Lake Ontario lap against the shore. Above the horizon are fluffy white clouds in a blue sky.

This brought me to tears. It has been a constant parade of cruelty for a year and a half. I don’t want to go through life angry and usually, I’m not. But this broke me. At the same time, I’m glad I’m this upset because it means I, at least, have not lost my humanity. WHO COULD DO THIS TO CHILDREN??

Houston has some beautiful neighborhoods.

A narrow city street, lined with live oaks on each side that form a tree tunnel. The street is patterned with tree shadows. Quaint homes with porches and balconies can be seen some distance away.

By far the biggest problem with delegating judgement to machines is the people who own the machines can tune them towards outcomes they prefer but those who don't own anything can't. It's not the technology. It's a transfer of decision making power from rational accountable systems to capital.

Every day the regime finds a hundred new ways to destroy, demoralize, and loot us. But here, they light the torch to our national treasures that have been protected for well over a hundred years, that should be the inheritance of future generations. There is no bottom to their greed.
