We sometimes write long and short versions of task instructions to see if it makes a difference. We've never seen it make a difference. People just go with the gist of what you are saying.

Your LLM can’t math (and that’s ok)
Last week we precisely defined an agent: an LLM, in a harness, that calls tools repeatedly in a loop. This week we'll fix a few deliberate simplifications and explore the consequences of the harness i...

I keep walking and take it in stride. Neighborhood dad, this is your plywood. You got to it first. There will be other wood. This is New York City. 3/3

Dan Goldstein @dggoldst.bsky.social · 04/06/2026
But then as I get closer this other dad who had walked past it turned around to take a closer look. He's got his nose all up in the plywood. He's thinking about how he can get it home. 2/3

So I'm walking down the sidewalk near my apartment and I see this big stash of plywood being thrown out. I'm some distance away but I can tell it's beautiful stuff. Very straight, many plys. 1/3

We're interested in between developer fx. Similar to your hunch that you wouldn't know how to do something with AI unless you had experience doing it manually. Problem is that experienced devs are better at everything so it's confounded.

We were thinking about having rookie and senior devs doing tasks with and wo AI. Could then check if prior experience doing things manually would help you work better with AI. The condition in which they do it unaided would allow us to establish the baseline quality of work achieved by both groups.
