@Rowena I was unaware of this particular crime against Australia that Howard did - but I will add it to my extensive list of everything that went wrong with Australia dates back to John Winston Howard. If only I had a Tardis … #AusPol

Governments like to say that inflation is the Reserve Bank’s problem while only giving the bank one lever to pull in order to control inflation. It means that the government does not have to take the hard and unpopular decisions and instead can point to the Reserve Bank and say ‘look over there’ […]

House prices falling by a percentage not seen in 40 years does not mean house prices have fallen to affordable levels - it is just that we have seen them increase so much year on year, that falls seem significant BUT IT DOESN'T MAKE HOUSING AFFORDABLE IT JUST MEANS THE HOUSING MARKET HAS BEEN BROKEN

This sort of fall takes house prices back to where they were only a few years ago, when the headlines were about the insane unaffordability. It's the more expensive homes (already over inflated) which are experiencing a drop - the lower end of the market has barely moved.

And of course, Gina’s favourite portrait, which is one portrait of a much larger group of portraits by artist Vincent Namatjira. #Canberra #NGA

A portrait of Australia’s richest person, Gina Rinehart. Gina thinks it is rather unflattering but I think it captures who she is quite accurately.

A picture of the entire instillation of portraits - there are 21 portraits in total in a 7 column by 3 row formation, including a self portrait of the artist in the centre of the instillation.

A view from above of the Aboriginal Memorial, featuring 200 hollow logs painted in Indigenous style. In the past, logs like these would hold Aboriginal bones as part of the funeral rites (no longer done). The sweeping pattern imitates that of the Clyde River in Central Arnhem Land #Canberra #NGA

I noticed that Perth had not yet go their hands on #BluePoles For those who came in late, purchase of Blue Poles for $10m in the early 1970s created a huge political controversy for the Gough Whitlam Government which you can read about here […] [Original post on aus.social]

A huge artwork by Jackson Pollock (USA) that is an abstract impressionist painting with many layers of paint seemingly randomly put on the canvas. There are eight ‘blue poles’ randomly distributed across the canvas that were added late in the painting process.

It is sitting on a blue plate sitting on a light coloured wood table.
