Dit is een schrijnend verhaal over hoe armoede leidt tot sociaal isolement, schaamte, verdriet en woede. Dubbel schrijnend is dat die terechte woede zich niet richt op de falende overheid, maar omslaat in ressentiment jegens vluchtelingen. Precies zoals extreemrechts het heeft georkestreerd.
