I'd love to buy comics from Humble Bundle but its so messy. Downloading all content takes forever and hundreds of mouse clicks, issue 3 of 6 is in a different file format, some are zipped, some have internal IDs as a name, some issues don't include the issue number. Takes a day to organize the files

Chatted with @nimsodev.bsky.social at #Gamescom, a delightful fellow working solo on Shallow Pond. Very impressed by the quality of this platformer. Charming, filled with wonder. Sounds good? Go and wishlist Reposts more than welcome. This deserves love. s.team/a/2950750/

Mostly invisible progress, I thought it'd be great to emulate a design constraint and have the world molded out of 32x32px blocks, as old games had save space. I no longer paint the palette separately, colors are extracted from the tileset so palettes are cooked not hardcoded. #ScreenshotSaturday

I decided to update my laptop. A little story. sudo apt update, upgrade, dist-upgrade, autoremove, and a reboot. All seems well but ownCloud was confused, didn’t seem to connect. My ownCloud runs on a raspberry, I haven’t updated that in ages. Let’s ssh into it and do the same.

For a student project I made a game where you played against two AI. Team IDs were stored in a char_t, player was 0, the AI 1 and 2. My AI code would print debug information so I could inspect it. By coincidence the console showed code page 437 characters. These smileys showed up instead of digits.
Characters from the 437 code page. These start with a black and white smiley, and the four suits used in a deck of cards.

Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12

2018: based on tracking we’re serving ads in a language you don’t understand as we figured out your location. 2026: Tracking is better now, here is an English ad, dubbed into German by the production company, and then AI-dubbed back to English. It sounds terrible and none of it was needed.

GTA5 running on a PS3 with 256MB RAM and 256MB VRAM. Try and boot an OS with those specs. Explain to me why a website easily pulls 100MB for showing text and the occasional image. Let Rockstar reinvent the web - oh, they already have! Give me eyefind.info, and I'll see you later on lifeinvader.com

Anyone know a tool for huge tilemaps on iPad? Ideally the whole world is in one map. Pixquare and Pixaki seem restrained on a maximum size, I could make vignettes and later make the world on PC but switching programs is a hassle. #pixelart #gamedev

Solo dev recreating 90s style in C++, that sounds familiar 😂 Lovely article, enjoyed the section on color, and the asset pipeline. Sometimes it feels counter-productive to have Kinari render to a Gameboy-esque PPU but I’m holding on to idea!

I’ve spent last week in Slovenia at my new job. Great to get to know my new colleagues a little bit, but very much looking forward to getting back home! I’m very surprised by how much English everyone’s speaking. It’s also a place to buy English books. I’m considering for next time to rent a bike.

I commission creatures for Kinari. Some design notes are more purposeful, others were rushed and uninspired. Luckily the artist knows how to convert both good and bad ideas into awesome sprites! Made by @jarmesan.bsky.social #screenshotsaturday #indiedev
A page of my design request document. Text and a photo of a poppy plant.

Poppy
I'm very lazy, perhaps this poppy plant has potential. Put some legs on 'em and have it shoot seeds from the tip of their head. Two creature designs, front and back sprite for the poppy creature. A young dainty poppy creature and a darker grown variant.

I really love reading public reviews. It shows a strange side of humanity. Today’s kind words were for a public park, 3/5 stars. Applauding the facilities, options, and ambiance. “My only complaint is that almost exclusively foreign neighbors use the place - a bit more diversity would be nice!” 😂

I've been free to work on my solo project. Comfy on my laptop, mostly my own code (lol ImGUI and SDL2). Full rebuild is 3.685s, run without debugger takes 0.2s and I can move. Pic irrelevant to what I worked on, but I haven't posted anything in a long time. #ScreenshotSaturday

I’m trying to buy something small and common online. First site didn’t accept my money unless I added 20 euros worth of product. A box was 8.- and contains 50 things, honestly I only needed 5, and I need nothing else, so can’t use that site. Second site required me to make an account. No thanks.

My phone is 5+ years old. I’d want a new one for the battery but Apple only makes iPhones that are bigger in size than what I own now. 6 minutes of Safari is 15% battery life! Incredible numbers from Bluesky. Looking at more stats Bsky consumes consistently 50% less than browsing or retail apps.
A screenshot of my phone showing various apps and how much power they consume. Safari consumed 15% in 6m while Bluesky consumed 14% in 34 minutes.

When I was a kid I made crappy games. One thing I did to make them more legitimate was add fake loading screens. I also tried wrapping them into an installer, but the free installer creators had a watermark, which wasn’t very legitimate, so I dropped that idea 😂 Anyone else did this?
