The UX profession came up during the rise of the algorithm. At least in the private sector, UX’s good faith efforts have lost ground in determining what proper user goals should be. The public sector is now struggling with the same as we are being pushed to adopt AI tools so aggressively.

Weird to say this as a UX designer, but I’m trying to re-establish within myself the notion that friction with digital tools is a good thing. The “feed” has gotten us nowhere. If searching feels too clunky and frustrating, then it’s better to go without the digital results.
