Someone close to me found out their boyfriend was taking pictures of women and children. What if I told her, bravely, prison abolitionist-ly, that she has no right to be upset on the victims' behalf and we have to wait until they come forward themselves? Now that I'm in my "anti" rehabilitative arc I just have to say the death penalty does work. If every known rapist was killed they couldn't rape again. Sure it doesn't necessarily prevent rapes that already happened but that's sorta just how time works.

I think genuinely there can be a legal and liberal feminism that changes a real lot of the things about how culturally and legally things like sexual assault and rape are treated and a lot has obviously already happened. Sometimes I think there's really a defeatism in opposition to such activism

people talk about "media literacy" usually in the context of "needing the villain to look into the camera and tell you they're bad," but it goes the other way too--people will fly into a rage and start insisting "fiction has no effect on reality" if you DO acknowledge context, subtext, framing, etc.
