I think it's an interesting area and tend to lose trust in work making categorical claims in either direction. There is some fragmentation, particularly between export - versus import sector unions. There is also a lot of transnational solidarity across countries within the same sector (e.g. autos).

Desiree LeClercq @desireelc.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
I'm studying this right now! We're finding that sectors (think screen actors, transportation) that have strong unions are managing to convert AI into a negotiation matter, whereas, to the surprise of no one, more vulnerable non-unionized workers have no say in management's automation decisions.

Desiree LeClercq @desireelc.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Lance Compa has written about how an interesting outgrowth of the NAALC litigation was a transnational labor solidarity movement that hadn't existed before. I've studied a similar phenomenon under the USMCA. It's difficult, though, b/c you also have unions protecting members against imports, etc.

Landmark #ICJ ruling & win for the #ILO & workers re the right to strike. The majority applied the VCLT art. 32 to read *into* a convention (treaty) a right that the text doesn't mention & the prep works arguably point against. Focusing on the treaty and not general principles was the right move.
