I love it when insert shots of newspapers tell huge hunks of story that would be too expensive/complicated to film. Also when they narrate the emergence of the multitude, decades before Virno or Hardt and Negri. [from *Wild Boys of the Road* (William Wellman, 1933)]

Worth keeping in mind that Haaland looks like a giant on a football pitch, but at 6'5", he is almost a foot shorter than Victor Wembanyama. Haaland is actually the same height as Dylan Harper.

Basically everything Linda Williams wrote was brilliant and illuminating, but "Melodrama Revised" is maybe the most important essay I have ever read on U.S. commercial cinema. It fundamentally changed the way I thought about American film--and, by extension, U.S. popular culture and political life.

Wanted to post that while I did not publish anything this year, I did work with a bunch of colleagues to build the first union for Arts profs at McGill in its 200-year history; we were officially certified last month. That said, I fear that this is the energy said post is giving.
