Look, I might DO podcasts, but @schooldaves.bsky.social is a way better podcaster than me. Listen to him get all worked up about how HE found all these discrepancies in the 10s of millions of dollars, while the FB trolls campaigning against the ref can’t even be bothered to dig. Solid gold.

Noblesville School Corporation has a referendum asking for a ceiling of $0.57 per $100AV, and their neighor Carmel Clay is asking for $0.43 per $100AV, and some cranky Noblesville folks are like “why do we have to ask for so much?” Well, property value disparaties!

This thread is awesome as always, but I have to say, here, that Michael Biehn and Powers Boothe looked good as hell in their efforts to show those Earp boys what for, and if anything Markwayne is the Billy Bob Thornton character who chooses to just stand there and bleed

I moved to WI when I was 11, and so to me they will always be water fountains and garage sales, and it is really a beautiful thing about living with others that my 5yo is like, you’re weird, that’s a bubbler. She’s my daughter, but she’s also FROM HERE.
You wouldn’t guess from this map that I lived the first 11 years of my life in West Virginia and Pennsylvania, nor that my parents grew up in northern Virginia and Kentucky/southern illinois respectively.

*pushes glasses up nose* ACTUALLY In the 18th century they invented a robot duck that pooped s/o Jessica Riskin’s “Restless Clock" press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/bo...
The first androids, then, seemed anything but clocklike in the traditional sense of the term. They seemed clocklike, rather, in Leibniz’s sense: unquiet, restless, visceral, active, responsive. A certain kind of responsiveness to its environment, or at least the appearance of a certain kind of responsiveness, characterized Vaucanson’s third automaton, which, unlike its confrères, was not a musician, and did not exercise any skill. In the frontispiece to the brochure for Vaucanson’s 1738 exhibit, this automaton stands modestly on its pedestal with the baroque figures of the two musicians posed ornately on either side.

Uncorrected Proofs for Review Only The First Androids

It was a duck, and what the Duck did, though unremarkable in a duck, was so extraordinary in a machine that it immediately seized center stage. Like Reisel’s artificial man and certain other machines had been purported to dobut this time in live performance—the Duck shat (see figure 4.6). It did so, appropriately, in response to being presented with a meal. First it gobbled up and gulped down some bits of corn and grain; then it took a pregnant pause; and at last it relieved itself, through its tail end, of an authentic-looking burden. The Duck also did other duckish things—flapping, splashing, ruffling—but its main attraction, drawing people from all over Europe to see it, was its final malodorous delivery.80

This is nice little gargoyle detail on the old Wisconsin Ave School in MKE. It’s where Gene Wilder learned to act. It’s been fenced off for more than a year, and vacant for even longer. It’s currently being renovated into apts. I’m sure there’s a whole history there, eh @schooldaves.bsky.social?
