Saw a reddit post where someone thought an episode of TV ending in a cliffhanger "to be continued" (NCIS, I believe) was an homage to TNG when Riker orders the Enterprise to fire on Locutus before a very long summer hiatus. People had to explain that the trope had existed for decades.

I did Ghost Protocol last night and about half of Rogue Nation (also doing my rewatch), and agree the Burj stunt is anxiety inducing like none other. But the underwater, breath holding sequence in Rogue taking advantage of a totally different fear is very smart.

Sincerely wondering the same about you. Did you read the article? Zas is talking about the NEW DCU that James Gunn and Peter Safran are making. It is impossible for you to share an opinion on this DCU going back almost 20 years or the 1990s when it just started.

That's not what Zaslav is referring to at all. He's talking about James Gunn's new DC series of films, the DCU, as opposed to Snyder's DCEU. The DC Universe you are referring to, which no one called it that, was in reference to the comic books. And we just said DC.
