Love these first cool blasts of autumn! Time to put down the Proust, head to the beach, and toss around the old cowhide leather shell over a polyurethane bladder. Happy Labour Day!🏈🍁

Releases August 18th. Available for pre-order now.
Hockey star Jake Ellis skated off the ice with a career-ending concussion, a comfortable fortune, and exactly one rule: nobody finds out he's gay. Volunteer-coaching girls' hockey in the smallest town he can find should keep the cameras away and the truth locked down—until the team's quiet, sharp-tongued manager starts to thaw the guard he's spent a career perfecting.

Ender Savard buried his own future five years ago to raise his late sister's daughter alone, and he's made peace with being the reliable one nobody chooses. Then a closeted athlete moves into his carriage house, confesses a truth he's never told another soul, and stokes a hunger Ender's been smothering for years.

Between them stands a jealous rival coach circling for a scandal, a niece who deserves a home without drama, and an ex who'd rather keep Jake as his bit on the side. Every kiss that Jake risks in public unmasks him a little further, anchoring him to a life he's spent a decade avoiding and edging him closer to losing the family he's built the second his secret breaks.

Come for the NHL star bounced into coaching girls' minor hockey, stay for the shy team manager who shows him what a life without hiding looks like. If you like the closeted-athlete ache of Heated Rivalry and the sweetness of Him, you'll love this story of second acts, chosen family, and a kiss planted on the ice in front of everybody.

So, my Regency romance was picked up. Muted fist pump. I feel so close to my dear Jane that I'm sure she'll endorse my title: Pride, Prejudice and Hot Dudes. Hold for response. Okay, I'll keep workshopping that. But fair warning: cravats will be loosened....

"You join us just in time for the annual booksellers versus librarians tug of war."

Panel Two: We see the participants warming up as he continues...
"Two very strong teams this year, they’ve both been in training since February. As always, the real skill in this match is not to start chatting about boo-"

Panel Three:

A pair of librarians are discussing the new Margaret Atwood!
A crowd is forming!
The booksellers are joining in!

We see all the participants chatting.

A cartoon about autumn....
Title: The leaves

 Image 1:
 Two leaves hang from branches.
"Would you like to hear my new poem?" Says one
"Is it another one about the inevitability of death?" replies a smaller leaf.

Image 2:
"It's autumn! What else am i going to write about?" says the poet leaf.
"Well, we've all turned this lovely reddish colour." says the small leaf.

Image 3:
"Actually, that could make a very nice poem. Thanks!" says the poet.

 Image 4.
The small leaf begins to reply but is blown away by a gust of wind.

 Image 5:
Later. The solitary poet leaf recites a poem:
"The year dies. I cling hopelessly. In the end all things fall."

Image: they are now outside sheltering under an unbrella in torrential rain. "Shall we go home?" says the reader. "Yes please. I'm getting soggy." says the book.

My cartoon for this week’s @newscientist.com
A comic strip in six panels. The panels inerlock like a jigsaw with knobs and sockets. Two stick figures walk right to left through all the panels.

Panel 1: Person 1 says "I hear you're working on a new theory."
Panel 2 & 3: Person 2 says: "Yes, I'm calling it the jigsaw model. I think it could change our whole View of reality."
Panel 4: Person 1 says "When Will you publish?:
Panel 5: Person 2 says "But a couple of things are still bothering me." (this piece/panel is a bit squint)
Panel 6: This piece is rotated ninety degees and fits to the others very badly. Person 2 is saying "Soon. I feel like I'm really close"
A second look at the whole comic shows that the last two panels read in the wrong order because the jigsaw has been put together incorrectly.

Title: Where writers really get their ideas.

A writer, holding a note in his outstretched hand approaches a cart in the park. The front of the cart reads 'Fresh ideas' and a colourful umbrella shades the server who is reaching deep into the body of the cart (much as an ice-cream vendor might) and saying:
"I'm all out of mind-blowing concepts and heart-rending narratives, but I've got an acerbic observation, an unexpected outcome and a couple of amusing notions."
