Education is a prerequisite for democracy to make sense. Asking many people about their preferences (aka elections) is asking for an expression of their convictions, values and needs - all determined by (not merely influenced) by their sources of information.

When you give of yourself until it hurts, you burn out on being able to help anyone. Over-giving attracts those who are insatiable for your generosity and will sap you entirely. You can still be generous with limits in place.

People-pleasiers are approval-seeklet’s. They often idealize others, for no obvious reason other than gaining approval. At its core, this is a willful act of self-deception. It doesn’t do you any favors either but instead actively sets you up for disappointmen

The way someone treats you is a reflection of their capacity, their upbringing and their internal state at any given moment. It is rarely about you. The more you understand that people can only show up from where they are emotionally and mentally, the less personally you will take their behavior.

Identity defined by external factors is always vulnerable to external changes. Don’t define yourself from external factors if you want to be stable in the face of the invariable change Life will confront you with. Job, work, kids, spouse, house. They’re great. They’re not you Who you are.

There’s a distinct difference to being, once one attempts the mastery of distancing - not from self but from one’s emotions. Maybe others, too. Especially if you’re the empathetic kind. Observing them as an experience as opposed to temporarily lending one’s identity is powerful.

Burnout […] is not just defined in terms of physical tiredness […]; rather, it emerges from emotional investment in a cause and from the disappointments that arise when flaws […] become apparent. [It] acknowledges the need to deal with anger caused by grief brought about by the “loss of an ideal.”
