Other points of interest: - The Duskbloods was a no-show, which makes me think its release has slipped into 2027. - Xenoblade Genesis didn't appear either, so it's probably getting lined up for the summer. - 3D Kirby going before 3D Mario is surprising. - No Smash 6 yet. Alas. Maybe next Direct.

Which makes me think there will be a general Direct this coming winter, unlike last year. Whether in February or early March, they'll need to talk more about what's coming for most of 2027.

And it feels like we still hardly know much about Nintendo's lineup for next year. Far as I'm aware, we don't have any actual release dates beyond February, right? And beyond that, just Kirby with a "Spring" window and Pokémon/Xenoblade with the nebulous "2027".

A lot of the 45 minute run time was going over late-arrival ports and updates to games that are already out. On one hand, it's really nice to see the Switch 2 get so much third party support. On the other, it bogged down the Direct's pacing and made the announcements feel more scattershot.

So, that was a pretty strange Direct. Kind of felt like Nintendo was pulling their punches, if that makes any sense? Metroid and Kirby were big announcements, but they were also the ONLY two new first party games to show up. A weirdly low number for these presentations.

I'm giving it about a 30-35% chance. With the Switch 2 price hike from rising component costs kicking in now, Nintendo might think it best to announce a system seller or two earlier than they otherwise would. And if any series of theirs actively benefits from a long news cycle, it's Smash Bros.

The visuals aren't fully clicking with me yet. The critiques about certain characters being so detailed it feels uncanny...yeah, I get it. It'll probably grow on us like the SF26 visuals did. I suppose it helps the game feel even more like fairy tale in another world.

I guess it says something that my first reaction to the OoT remake gameplay was to go "Holy shit." This is a REMAKE remake the way Star Fox was. Same bones, whole new coat of paint and extra flourishes meant to take what was already there and raise it further.

I don't know. My gut feeling is they hold off on adding a new console for a while longer. Still plenty of Gamecube games to get to, and some deep cuts on other systems they've already added.

And, for me at least, the big one. Whatever they're planning for Smash Bros. is likely at least a year out, but could a teaser show up here? Something to say "this game exists", kickstarting news for a game that'd actively benefit from having a long cycle? Well...stranger stuff's happened, right?

There might be a lot hinging on what shows up. Will the next 3D Mario platformer finally appear? What about Mario Kart DLC? Will the Metroid rumors surface? What have HAL and Next Level Games been up to? Could Fortune's Weave be hiding anything big still? What other surprises could there be?
