This one published just today re: our local transit + SB63.

Letter to the Editor: Improving our public transit
There has been a lot of discussion around the regional transit funding measure, SB 63. SB 63 would help prevent service cuts to our existing transit system, and so, it is critical for San Mateo County...

Is it a good sign that my letters to the editors are being published in my local paper though? Because this month it’s been 2/2 ☺️

Haven’t been on here in a while but I wanted a space to share that I can’t believe it’s almost been a year since I’ve finished my dissertation and now I am finishing writing up a paper expanding on it. Idk where or if it’ll even end up anywhere but here’s to manifesting it does 🥹✨

You know the saying about how it libraries didn't already exist, there's no way we would create them now because it would be seen as """socialist"""? Same with the post office. If it goes away, they will never bring it back

Tuning inward to local news more lately. I love seeing what’s happening in my community. Why have I not done this sooner?

Agree with you 100%. I came on here to shut out the noise. I want to get to stay focused and get to work. But also love seeing all the things library and archives colleagues are up to 🥹

support archives and archivists sufficiently in times of normal operation so we can do our jobs in times of crisis. read about ongoing efforts before your library of alexandria comparisons. respect the expertise of people who have been doing the work. fund permanent archival and preservation labor.

I guess timing is everything. I've posted links to this doc the White House dropped on 1.19.2025. It was removed the next day. I shared on Threads again today & it is finally picking up traction. This is how we rebuild. The National Resilience Strategy begins with community.

Auschwitz Memorial @auschwitzmemorial.bsky.social · 27/01/2025
Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.
A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.

#AHA24 was a fantastic conference and it’s a shame I couldn’t be in multiple places at once 😅 Hoping for sessions to be recorded in the future! 🤞🏼Either way, what a great way to start the year.

I’ve truly missed analyzing film and media and it dawned on me - why is it so hard for me to do this with text? As an MSc student this session was such a helpful exercise.

Really enjoyed the session “Reading Beyond the Text: Expanding our Methodological Approaches to the Past” because it helped me go back to my film and visual culture roots in asking the right questions - esp. even within text which I still struggle with - to dig deeper. #AHA24

“Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and the Future of History” was such an enlightening panel. I now dread generative AI and the future less; all it took were historians to put things into context to help put my mind at ease. My favorite session today! #AHA24

Am I shy in networking? Sure. But I had a great conversation with a gentleman about Robert Crichton Wyllie, libraries, and archives and that was a highlight of my day. 😊 Along with meeting my mom for brunch, of course.

We do not usually raise points that might be seen as political - any more than simply doing history inevitably is - but we find this proposal, that would result in the destruction of almost all original post-1800 UK wills concerning. This consultation closes 23 February 2024.

Easier access to historic wills under new government plans
Genealogists, historians and amateur family archivists will be better able to access historic wills under proposals published today (15 December 2023).
