Gullermo's second festival screening is happening this Thursday 23 July as part of the Kilkenny Pride Film Festival, starting 7pm at the Set Theatre! Tickets are free but booking is essential: www.tickettailor.com/events/kilke...

A poster made of the materials used in my short film Gullermo (sticky notes with seagull drawings, printed cutouts, clay models, pressed leaves, Scrabble tiles) advertising Gullermo @ Kilkenny Pride on 23 July in the Set Theatre at 7pm. Speech bubble sticky notes with the rainbow, asexual, non-binary and trans flags have been arranged around honking Gullermos.

A still from Gullermo! Oil pastel and rhinestones on John Berger photocopies.

An oil pastel drawing of a goofy looking front-facing seagull with rhinestones on his eyes on photocopied pages. The source of the pages is cut out and pasted beside the drawing: About Looking by John Berger, from the chapter Why Look At Animals? For Giles Aillaud. Pantheon Books, New York, 1980.

Forgot VD! These are sped up timelapses of me doing mixed media animation - drawing on frames of printed footage of my seagull friend Gullermo with acrylic paint pens. There is a preview of the animated footage at the end, with lots of foliage and a pirate hat. Song: Tohogd - Angine de Poitrine

Yeah it should be fine! Don't leave any uneaten food sitting in there for a long time but they're pretty hardy. You can get water conditioners for tap water that remove the chlorine (I use seachem prime) if you want to add fresh water occasionally, collected rainwater would also work

Donnacha @dejaysus.bsky.social · 08/04/2026

You could try giving them more sticks, dried leaf litter, aquatic plant life etc to browse on! They are sensitive to pollution and pesticides though so I would rinse stuff off well first and pick stuff less likely to have pesticides. I blanch tiny bits of vegetables for my shrimp all the time!

Little inkblots enjoying the crud on old driftwood. Like true shrimp they have little legs underneath for crawling around and then bigger flipper legs for swimming

When you Google them mostly round ones come up but I have lots of the more ovoid inkblot ones in my tank, I'll try get a pic tomorrow

You don’t need Disney-level resources and drawing skills to create animation. People have made classics with sand and a source of light. With magazine clippings, or their own bodies animated via stop motion. There’s no barrier to entry, as we explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/sand-and-a...

I only did two hourly comics this year before I decided to spend my energy elsewhere, gettin snacks and looking at fish. Been waking up early lately for someone with sleepalot disorder #hourlycomicsday

Two sticky notes with paint pen hourly comics. The left note is lavender and labeled 1:30AM, with a paint pen drawing of me lying on the couch with a mug, looking haunted with spirals coming out of my head. The right note is blue and labeled 8:30AM. A blue drawing of my partner getting out of bed while I croak 'coffee?' from under the covers.

Gotcha—let’s dig into that step by step. 1. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, because I turned you into an amorphous lump of flesh. You’re not just immobile—you’re immortal, and you feel only anguish. 2. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺. That makes total sense—it’s a natural human impulse, and you’ve been through a lot.

Behind the scenes of Gullermo! Bashing out as much stopmo claymation as I can over the next few weeks and then I'll focus on oil pastel, sticky notes and collage for some other scenes.

For National Poetry Day, a personal favourite of mine and one I think about more and more in these troubled times.

The Second Coming
By W.B. Yeats

Guess who just got back today?
Them wild-eyed boys that'd been away
Haven't changed, hadn't much to say
But man, I still think them cats are crazy
They were askin' if you were around
How you was, where you could be found
Told them you were livin' downtown
Drivin' all the old men crazy

[Chorus]
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
(I said) The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
The boys are back in town
