Using TTRPGs to elevate other media forms would benefit both things greatly. Example: I make games in a world I write short stories in and ran a cross media actual play a few weeks ago that aired last Saturday. Both added depth to the worlds and helped with creativity & constraints in the games

I'll up the ante and say RPG-adjacent boardgames like BSG, Mansions (1e partisan here), Descent, Heroquest...are not really on another side of an artificial fence; it's a spectrum and there's no particular hill to die on between RPG and "just a boardgame"

Game genres are only really useful in an academic and retail setting. Otherwise they are invisible walls and tribes that become barriers for people to experience the full breath of what these types of games offer. Pbta and OSR are more alike than you think.
