I have no idea why I have received this email. Does anyone know if it's a scam? The only way you can respond is by phone.
Official looking email message saying I have to return my "kit".

(The recording will be available) Jay Bhattacharya said some interesting things in introductory speech, but this concerned me. He presented a graph from Mortality Watch (I think this one) showing that mortality was declining in Sweden but not in the USA 2/n
Age standardized mortality is constant and higher in US than in Sweden from 2000/2025, whereas Sweden shows a decline.

What a long way we have fallen .... hansard.parliament.uk/lords/2017-0.... Here's a post I did on Facebook in 2017
Section of Hansard report on Higher Education and Research bill, with amendment that passed 313 to 219 votes. It argued that international students should be encouraged, not treated as long-term migrants, and not be subjected to more restrictive immigration controls than were in force on the day when the Act was passed.

Another Nature Medicine article with highly restrictive data availability statement.
Data sharing statement argues that confidentiality/privacy concerns preclude open data sharing. You *may* gain access if you submit a proposal that the authors like and it doesn't take them too long to prepare the data .

Can the editor of Science Signaling explain why it took 11 months to retract a paper by the Lesné group after being requested to do so by the authors' institutional research integrity officer, who confirmed published figure did not represent research record. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Section from retraction notice dated 23 December 2025.

"On 24 January 2025, we were notified by the research integrity officer of the University of Minnesota that an investigation into concerns about image manipulation in Fig. 1G had been completed. The investigation found that the concerns raised were valid and that the figure as published did not accurately reflect the research record. To correct the literature, the University of Minnesota recommended that the publication be retracted. In light of this recommendation and given our loss of confidence in the paper, Science Signaling is retracting the paper in full."

This is the only one I'm happy to share - you will of course recognise it! I have your Tubemapper book and get great enjoyment from trying to copy effects - makes me really look hard at scenes I've walked past for years when living in London. You'll like the extra reflection on glass table!

Not sure if it's just the heat that's making me crabby, or leg cramps, but I'm so fed up with Data Availability Statements that aren't worth the paper they are written on, e.g. my comment here: pubpeer.com/publications...
text of Data Sharing statement saying authors will share if they approve a proposal by those requesting the data, and there's mention also of signed data access agreement.

Wowzers!
Tweet sequence on X.
Geoffrey Hinton: I think Elon Musk should be expelled from the British Royal Society. Not because he peddles conspiracy theories and makes Nazi salutes, but because of the huge damage he is doing to scientific institutions in the US. Now let's see if he really believes in free speech.
Elon Musk: Only craven, insecure fools care about awards and memberships. History is the actual judge, always and forever.
Your comments above are carelessly ignorant, cruel and false.
That said, what specific actions require correction? I will make mistakes but endeavor to fix them.

This is a perfect response:
However, what we have is no action and no comment. Attenborough rightly lauds the Royal Society for its principles of intellectual independence and open debate, but there has been no open debate on this matter. He also rightly reminds us of the Society’s Latin motto Nullius in verba – “Take nobody’s word for it”. But in this instance, ironically, the Royal Society is asking us to do just that – take their word without any explanation of their decision.

Love this quote by Jacob Bronowski about the idealised view of the scholar. Then I think about Elon Musk, FRS
"... they do not make wild claims, they do not cheat, they do not try to persuade at any cost, they appeal neither to prejudice nor to authority, they are often frank about their ignorance, their disputes are fairly decorous, they do not confuse what is being argued with race, politics, sex or age, they listen patiently to the young and to the old who both know everything. These are the general virtues of scholarship, and they are particularly the virtues of science".

Well, re that tomato paper, now there's a notice re "concerns regarding the use of non-standard derivatives of established technical terms" - but still no recognition of the fact it's such arrant nonsense that integrity of reviewers and editor must come into question. www.mdpi.com/2305-6290/6/...

Nothing to see here. Just Elon Musk FRS retweeting an incendiary statement about @royalsociety.org's Foreign Member Anthony Fauci at the point when Trump removed Fauci's protection. Need for preemptive pardon amplified when Musk previously tweeted "prosecute Fauci".
