Hey Japan! @hey-japan.com · 14/06/2026

Ajisai (hydrangea) season is at its height. The blooms peak alongside the rainy season, their colours ranging from blue to pink depending on the soil they grow in. Temples and shrines are among the finest places to enjoy them, such as Myoraku-ji in Kawasaki, shown here.

A large stone lantern carved with a deer motif stands among pink and purple hydrangeas. Wooden temple buildings with tiled roofs and green foliage are visible to either side.

Clusters of blue and lavender hydrangeas in the foreground, with a tall, multi-tiered stone pagoda and an inscribed stone monument behind them. A temple building and dense green trees fill the background.

A stone water basin fed by a bamboo spout, its surface covered with floating hydrangea blooms in blue, purple, pink, and white. A wooden ladle rests across the rim, with a garden and the base of a large tree behind.

A wooden temple bell tower with a curved, ornamented roof and a bronze bell, enclosed by a carved stone railing. In the foreground, a bed of hydrangeas in blue, pink, and pale lilac sits beneath green trees and an overcast sky.

The bitter Brrmudgeon. #art

A person conjures a tiny snow cloud with his hand. He looks disgruntled. A scarf covers his mouth and hangs down to his knees. At the end of his icy hat is a broken sun ornament. He wears a cloak, and is standing in snow. Painted with Payne's grey watercolor and white gouache.
