Love the new layout. Just one thing though. The glossier paper makes really distracting reflections under some lighting conditions. I am finding myself having to continuously tilt the magazine this way and that to be able to read it. Photo with last month's issue for comparison

Protesters blocking a road is terrible! Except when it isn't!
Goodwin posts on Facebook a few days ago castigating Just Stop Oil protesters for blocking a road, and saying that the police should DRAG them out of the road and lock them up if they resistGoodwin posts on Facebook yesterday that he STRONGLY supports the right of small boats protesters to blockade a port

Has anyone looked into what this mysterious "Democracy Volunteers" organisation is? Never heard of it before this incident! Are they really unbiased? The manner of their announcement was not in keeping with the claims on their website

Superb piece by @jamesbloodworth.bsky.social in this month's @bylinetimes.bsky.social mag: "Britain's Media Has Let Nigel Farage Reshape Political Journalism - Why?" This article alone was worth my annual sub to one of the very few news outlets still doing proper journalism
Snippet of Byline Times, November 2025, pointing out how the British mainstream media has created a "perfect circle of self-perpetuating hype" around Nigel Farage, i.e. how his prominence in MSM feeds his popularity which in turn justifies further coverage, and so on. Author proposes that this is a predictable consequence of an industry that has restructured itself around virality.

No, rapid chargers are not just about allaying "range anxiety", but making long journeys in an EV practicable and not too much slower/more hassle than doing the same journey in a combustion vehicle
Screenshot of Guardian piece on 22 June 2025 about govt change to EV charging funding. Text reads: Increasing the number of public chargers is seen as crucial to persuading people to switch to electric cars. However, the focus has shifted from rapid chargers, which can allay “range anxiety” on longer journeys, to the slower on-street chargers needed for car owners who do not have private parking spaces

But according to this guy, £74K household income is enough to pay for private schooling. So that fake news article family on £345K must be easily able to cover the fees!

Email to The Guardian sent 3 May 2025.

Subject: Local election reporting

Your online piece "How the big parties fared in the English local elections" awarded the Liberal Democrats a 3.5 star rating for their performance. The article mentioned Warwickshire going to no overall control as if that was the party's main achievement of these elections, but strangely omitted saying anything about gaining control of Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire and Shropshire. Maybe four stars, then?

All true, but unfortunately the Guardian itself isn't averse to casually bandying this misleading word about. Here we have a "landslide" headline about an election in which more people voted for other parties than did for the winning one.
Guardian front page of 5 July 2024. The headline is "Labour Landslide"

I wonder if the helicopter pilots actually use this chart to follow the altitude restrictions? The 300 feet is for the other route but written very close to the route 1 the helicopter was on. Closer in fact than the 200 foot marking for route 1

I find it hard to square this decision with the following claim from the UKRI website. (Screenshot because of character limit, sigh)
Excerpt from UKRI website: "Our funding decisions are made independently from government, as per the Haldane principle. This states that decisions about which research projects to fund should be made through independent evaluation by experts, based on the quality and likely impact of that research."
