Fascinating w/ @torstenbell.bsky.social Cambridge Literary Festival. So many good points, but a key reminder - policy does matter. Data now coming through on Sure Start shows abolition was a bad move. Closing youth centres leads to higher crime. Policy takes times, but makes a difference.

This is the cost of “small government”. Newly created intergenerational trauma. Thousands more children needing expensive care placements. It’s now costing more than £4 billion a year to pick up the pieces from shattering health visiting, family support, early help, social services, CAMHS.

Was once blessed to meet Professor David Whitebread, who was the first Lego Professor. He said to me "The problem with the world today, is that there's not enough mucking about!" And he was right. Mucking about lowers cortisol and increases oxytocin & serotonin! = Relaxation, connection & #JOY 🦩
