Everyone needs to go see Appofeniacs if it's playing near you. It is very bad, but in that way where it's indifference towards conventional rules of storytelling allow it to be genuinely shocking the whole way through. Each scene ends the way a Goosebumps chapter ends.

If we're being technical, it's a 2025 release that it stateside this year. However: I do not care. It is fight scene perfection, every scene building on the last until a final five-way brawl that had me smiling so hard my face hurt. Whole crowd was hooting and hollering. Violence lovers rejoice.

People will tell you the difference between Persona 2 and everything after is the social links/calendar stuff, but really its that in P3 and beyond NPCs give you love confessions after 7-9 dates and in P2 they ask if you want a quick fuck by the bike racks before you even know their names.

#2: One Battle After Another Occasionally we get a big, crowd-pleasing blockbuster that's also just so damn good even a contrarian such as myself can't deny it. This movie rocks, it owns, I love how much it loves it's counterculture fuck-ups. Basically perfect.

My top five movies of 2025: #5: Weapons Zach Cregger is the real deal, making capital-H Horror movies with real scares. The sprawling plot, which spends the majority of it's runtime circling the central mystery while each viewpoint character adds new levels of intrigue, is a true achievement.
