I think why it doesn't work for a lot of people is, while it CAN be done, it's normally a game / narrative design taboo to have a character do things off screen, which is the whole conceit of durge. It often breaks the player-character relationship in a way that just feels weird

There are TWO main options. Part of the reason the union is making this a very public campaign, without necessarily needing to, is that any unfair treatment can translate to bad PR. The second is industrial action. This is contingent on a high enough number of employees being members.

A common practice from game companies when they discriminate against workers and the worker files a grievance is to double down. The companies claim the worker is under performing and will be disciplined, they force them into office, and they isolate them. Then they offer the worker a settlement.
