I just have to say that I’m incredibly thankful that customer service at British Airways was able to get me alternative flights out of Milan tomorrow. My original flight out of Malpensa was cancelled because of an air traffic strike tomorrow but Linate isn’t going out on strike.

Today I visited the Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze in Florence, Italy. The collection as a whole is amazing, but for now I’ll just share a thought on Michelangelo’s David. You really need to walk around the sculpture otherwise you won’t see David’s essence and youthfulness. #TravelSky

No, all trains do not run on time in Italy, but I will be compensated for my very late Frecce high speed train from Naples to Florence. I just have to request it after I arrive! We should really have something like this in the US.

Compensation for delays between 30 and ^ 59 minutes for Frecce trains
If Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca trains are delayed between 30 and 59 minutes, Trenitalia will grant passengers a bonus equal to 25% of the original ticket price, which can be used within 12 months to purchase a new ticket.
This bonus is non-cumulative and may not be used in conjunction with compensation awarded for delays of more than 59 minutes nor with any other type of compensation.

Compensation for delays exceeding 59 minutes for Frecce, Intercity and Intercity Notte trains
If your train arrived late at the final destination, you are entitled to a compensation for delay equal to:

• 25% of the ticket price for a delay ranging from 60 to 119 minutes;

Today I spent the afternoon at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. While I went to see the amazing artifacts from Pompeii and Herculaneum, it was a happy surprise to find yet another beautiful ceiling fresco. It is from 1781 and is called “Triumph of Ferdinand IV and Maria Carolina”.

Today I’m headed south to the Province of Caserta, which is where my great grandparents La Torre were born. It will be my only non urban stay during what my Italian friends are calling my grand tour, but it will be the most meaningful. I just wish that I had done this with my dad or grandparents.
