Sadly I think this might still be why Sonic Team doesn't get the time and money they need to make truly amazing stuff. They have the ability, I know it. Upper management just won't allow them the resources. I hope that changes.

Some people are joking about it being ai. While I'll agree that it hits all the same stylistic beats of over-detailing shit for no reason, I think that's more indicative of the state of ai as opposed to TLoZ:OoT. Sure, I agree the game looks bad, but it's not because I think it's ai.
