What a travesty. It is one of University of Manchester’s jewels along with the Whitworth Art Gallery and the Manchester Museum. Would funding be cut if it was in Oxbridge? It is a real science day out for generations of children from far and wide. @manchester.ac.uk

Have my own luxurious bed now but #duvetknowitschristmas in my childhood is seared in me. Visiting my aunt in Abbey Hey Manchester(the ‘smart part of Gorton’!!) I elected to sleep on the floor rather than share a bed with aunt, mother and sister and woke up with my nose against one of these!

It was only after I went to Uni that my parents got a fridge, a Hillman imp car and a phone- also on a hall table! Remember too the multipurpose kitchen cupboard with pull down front for a work surface - no fitted kitchens then.
