The PS1 turns 30 today! But what about Sega? Excerpt from an interview with Yu Suzuki published in Sega Hard Historia in which he discusses the relationship between Sega and Sony before the release of the PS1.

"SEGA was too honest, too friendly, too soft. Sony was about to enter the video game industry at that time. And if Sony asked us a question, we told them everything. Maybe we thought that Sony would not become such a strong competitor later on. We told them all kinds of things. If they asked me a question, well, I answered them. We were all from the new technology field. So we felt like we were on the same team. And Sony is a big company, so they were able to figure out a lot of things. And before we knew it, they were stronger than we thought. The people at SEGA were working on new technologies, they weren't really thinking in terms of strategy or sales. That's why people like Mr. Kutaragi (the "dad" of PlayStation), Mr. Maruyama (the former president of Sony Computer Entertainment) and others later came to me and said, "Thank you for everything Mr. Suzuki." I wondered at the time why they were thanking me so much."

As I've complained before in this here platform, AI gen'd images are taking over websites that us artists use for references. Here's an example, screenshot courtesy of a reddit post (from user MetaKnowing). Same thing is happening on DeviantArt, Pinterest etc. with no clear way to filter them out.

This book (The Mythical Man Month) is an example of why books can be so important and influential even decades later. Written in 1975, in a very different time, about software engineering: some parts are still relevant today. The parts that don’t change that much.

`grep` and `find` are insanely powerful yet so simple they can navigate codebases so huge the majority of IDEs simply melt down. And since they've been around for over half of a century they're unlikely to go anywhere. They are the skill that will literally serve you until the end of your career.
