From one of the many protests in DC over the weekend. Found this on the sidewalk near my bldg. Not sure what the lizard symbol means. Is it code for him being a “lizard person”? Pretty cuckoo.
Picture of a fake bill. The front of the fake $53 bill with Tяump’s likeness on it. It says American Abortion Holocaust on the top and Federally Sanction Child’s Sacrifice on the bottom. Picture of a fake bill. The back of the previous fake $53 bill with a drawing of a baby torn apart, lying on its side. Same bill as previous, but has the denomination at $75. It says Seventy Five Million Murdered on the bottom. On the left side, in blue is the Dem donkey symbol and on the right is a red Republican symbol of the elephant.

Oooh - thanks for posting this! I just bookmarked that so I can read it this evening. Just reading the first few pages and holy shit, it’s so well written!
The following takes place between
March 1980 and June 1981.
Part One: a seventh-floor hotel room in Knightsbridge. Tom Petty is sitting at a table drinking Coke and wishing it was Jack Daniel's. He's wearing an American Confederate jacket with one white star on the epaulette. He's got a Joni Mitchell bone structure, straw-blond hair and a smile like a Gainesville gator.
He looks androgynous and he can be ruthless. Like he was on March 7 and 8 at the Hammersmith Odeon when he berated the audience after an hour of polite British reserve with the taunt:
"Are you all on fucking Mandrax?" And then slays them with When The Time Comes. It's a riot now.

Kensington is great, as is Caro. I’ve heard Caro, but had no idea the band is Dutch. All these musicians are really well honed. Really solid. Really good. I guess I should be so surprised. After all, Eddie Van Halen was a Dutch person.
Eddie Van Halen with long hair (probably in his mid twenties) and in the drivers seat of a t-top Camaro. His hand is on the steering wheel and he has a cigarette dangling from his mouth. The picture is epic rick and roll.

Reminder that heinous, deposed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad is being harbored by heinous Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin. Dictators stand together. Hope that clarifies things for some.
Deposed Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad stands next to Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin. They are both in suits, facing forward and looking at something in the distance. They appear to be at some dictator event with some faceless military dudes behind them and a Syrian flag visible in the background. Zelensky is not one of the bad guys. He’s an indefatigable leader of a people suffering through an illegal war waged upon them by Russia. Fuck both of these guys.

The lyrics to the song are really good. Very 1989.
In the shops are shining things
I can I can see them glittering
I wish that I could buy them all I wish I lived in a shopping mall
Shady back yard afternoon
Summer clothes and tennis shoes
When the light begins to fade
A porch swing creaks with lemonade...
A shower of whispers glow and bloom
Late night movie fills the room
Streetlights twinkling like dew
I close my eyes, it ends too soon
All in dreams, I can dream now oh how I I wanna live where it's like today
I wanna live where it's always this way I wanna live where it's always Saturday

This is so good! Amazing how much of our language derives from seafaring. They’re all interesting, but this one struck me as super cool. I always thought “cut of your jib” came from the boxing ring.
'I like the cut of your jib': Jibs are triangular sails that are found at the front of a ship. The shape of jibs varied across countries and nations, and as a result, 18th-century sailors could identify a warship as a friend or foe by the shape of their jib. Nowadays, if you like the cut of someone's jib then you like the way they look or act.

I had no idea that toilets were so… deep. If toilets reveal our past, it certainly makes sense that they’re also telling us something about the crappy state of affairs in what I barely recognize as the United Sates of America. That’s my new punk band name: Prognosticating Crappers
A screenshot of a tweet from some rando:

In a traditional German toilet, the hole into which shit disappears after we flush is right at the front, so that shit is first laid out for us to sniff and inspect for traces of illness. In the typical French toilet, on the contrary, the hole is at the back, i.e. shit is supposed to disappear as quickly as possible. Finally, the American (Anglo-Saxon) toilet presents a synthesis, a mediation between these opposites: the toilet basin is full of water, so that the shit floats in it, visible, but not to be inspected. [...] It is clear that none of these versions can be accounted for in purely utilitarian terms: each involves a certain ideological perception of how the subject should relate to excrement. Hegel was among the first to see in the geographical triad of Germany, France and England an expression of three different existential attitudes: reflective thoroughness (German), revolutionary hastiness (French), utilitarian pragmatism (English). In political terms, this triad can be read as German conservatism, French revolutionary radicalism and English liberalism. [...] The point about…

Some add’l info.
A proposed amendment becomes part of the Constitution as soon as it is ratified by three-fourths of the States (38 of 50 States). When the OFR verifies that it has received the required number of authenticated ratification documents, it drafts a formal proclamation for the Archivist to certify that the amendment is valid and has become part of the Constitution. This certification is published in the Federal Register and U.S. Statutes at Large and serves as official notice to the Congress and to the Nation that the amendment process has been completed.

lol. There may be no need to monitor Mike Johnson’s web habits. It appears he doesn’t know how to use the web anyway.
One cannot say for certain that Rep. Mike Johnson was deliberately lying during his acceptance speech to return as Speaker of the House. He read what he claimed was a prayer recited by President Thomas Jefferson "each day of his eight years of the presidency and every day thereafter until his death." It is always technically possible that the Louisiana Republican is so profoundly ignorant of history that he didn't know that statement is preposterous on its face. As the Thomas Jefferson Foundation notes on its website, Jefferson doubted "the efficacy of prayer." They add that "Jefferson rejected the notion of the Trinity and Jesus' divinity. He rejected Biblical miracles, the resurrection, the atonement, and original sin." He saw Jesus as a secular philosopher and wasn't a
"Christian" in the way most people understand the term.

Nifty word of the day: iknitl /eek-knee-tl/
In Otomi, a lesser-known language spoken in central Mexico, the word "brother" is very intruiging. It turns out it's a verb in that language. So, not "he's my brother" but "he brothers me". And the verb is reflexive - "we brother each other". It is actually a homophone of the verb for
"walk". So to say "he's my brother" in Otomi, you literally say
"We walk together."

Tяump’s announcement of the Special Enviy to the Middle East. I’m embarrassed for Morgan AND Tяump. jfc
STATEMENT FROM PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP
I am pleased to announce Morgan Ortagus as Deputy Special Presidential Envoy for Middle East Peace, to the Honorable Steven Witkoff. Early on Morgan fought me for three years, but hopefully has learned her lesson. These things usually don't work out, but she has strong Republican support, and I'm not doing this for me, I'm doing it for them. Let's see what happens. She will hopefully be an asset to Steve, a great leader and talent, as we seek to bring calm and prosperity to a very troubled region. I expect great results, and soon!
Morgan Ortagus has had experience in Diplomacy and National Security, and is an active U.S. Navy Reserve Intelligence Officer. From 2019-2021, Morgan served as Spokesperson at the Department of State (Pompeo!), where she was a member of my Historic Abraham Accords team that brought unprecedented Peace to the Middle East. Earlier, she worked at the Department of the Treasury as a financial intelligence analyst and, from 2010-2011, was the Deputy U.S.
Treasury Attaché to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Good luck Morgan!

Nifty Jimmy Carter story: A reporter asks Carter if he ever looked into Roswell Incident and his answer is a story about the CIA successfully using mediums. 😲 h/t Joshua Claybourn
One of the promises you made in 1976 was that if you were elected, you would look into the reports from Roswell and see if there had been any coverups.
Did you look into that
Well, in a way. I became more aware of what our intelligence services were doing. There was only one instance that I'll talk about now. We had a plane go down in the Central African Republic—a twinengine plane, small plane. And we couldn't find it. And so we oriented satellites that were going around the earth every ninety minutes to fly over that spot where we thought it might be and take photographs. We couldn't find it. So the director of the CIA came and told me that he had contacted a woman in California that claimed to have supernatural capabilities. And she went in a trance, and she wrote down latitudes and longitudes, and we sent our satellite over that latitude and longitude, and there was the plane.

Does this sound familiar? Are We Becoming a Post-Literate Society? (link to free Financial Times piece) archive.ph/p93Ed
The implications for politics and the quality of public debate are already evident. These, too, were foreseen.
In 2007, writer Caleb Crain wrote an article called
"Twilight of the Books" in The New Yorker magazine about what a possible post-literate culture might look like. In oral cultures, he wrote, cliché and stereotype are valued, conflict and name-calling are prized because they are memorable, and speakers tend not to correct themselves because "it is only in a literate culture that the past's inconsistencies have to be accounted for". Does that sound familiar?
