Released today this album is freaking amazing 🥲 Mavis still at it and as good as ever. Johnny Cash had “The Man Comes Around” late in his career and now Mavis has “Sad and Beautiful World.” Break out the awards. tidal.com/browse/album...

Such a day yesterday planting five large shade trees and digging up ten small ones along our row of large trees to take to my sister. I planted 2 sugar maples I named Shimmer and Shake. I also planted a willow oak, a pin oak and a Shumard oak. #nativeplants

My sugar maple I named Shimmer. She is really showing out.

My sugar maple I named Shake. Not as showy as Shimmer but still a striking tree and she has the moves when the wind picks up.

Some sycamores, tulip poplars and oaks to trade with my sister. I’m getting sassafras, sumac and hairy aster.

Two box alder saplings and one I am rooting for my sister.

I’m very excited to announce that I’ve signed a contract with @uncpress.bsky.social to write a book about Memphis music. Tentatively titled Memphis in the Meantime: 50 More Years of Bluff City Pop, Punk, Blues, Hip-Hop & Roots Music, it’ll start in the late 70s and end roughly in the present.
