Detail from a painting from 1504. A young man with a hat is thinking, his left arm is a bit raised, his hand is forming a circle.

Flooding the zone with shit 2.0: wissenschaftliche Literatur. Für die universitäre Lehre und Forschung ist das eine Katastrophe, weil die institutionellen und praktischen Barrieren zwischen seriöser Erkenntnisarbeit und ihrer technischen Simulation durchlässig werden, s. Unibibliotheken.

Well, it’s a Temu ad for a 588 piece Lego knockoff of the crucifixion of Jesus (of Nazareth). It says CREATIVE, and also it’s 16.7 inches tall, which is objectively TOO TALL for a lego crucifixion scene.

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

A medieval manuscript has confounded scholars for centuries. Have they been reading it wrong all this time?
Researchers argue incorrect binding of Voynich manuscript radically changes ideas about its drawings and indecipherable text

I just spotted a flying owl in a court dress with a wig in an eighteenth century print... Let's go, #SuperbOwl
an owl dressed like a judge, under it stands the slogan "summa jus, summa iniuria.” This translates to “The highest justice is the highest injustice.” meaning “The strictest application of the law is the highest injustice". The owl is a tiny detail in a satire print, and you may find more about this over here: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_1868-0808-4409

It is not about getting a degree. It is about learning something that helps you tackle the world after university. And learning to think, to argue, to research, is a thing that helps tackling the reality.

I also experiment with podcasts as reading tasks, and then working with a source about the topic in class. But I am unsure how this will turn out as no one takes notes anymore.

Cover reveal! The keywords I sent the press were “historical,” “natural,” and “multimedia” and I’d say they nailed it. Featuring my (book’s) main man Humphry Repton on the left there. Coming from Yale University Press this fall.
Image of a book cover with the title The Book of Improvement, subtitle Media Landscapes in the Global Enlightenment, and author Rachael King. The cover features a tree in the center with two men with surveying equipment to the left of the trunk and two men reclining under an umbrella to the right of the trunk. There are a river and rolling hills in the background.
