Then we came back to the hotel and I fell asleep for an hour. I have had ONE nicotine lozenge today, and I got a solid nine hours sleep last night. I genuinely don’t remember the last time I slept more than four hours in a row, and it’s generally been two hours at a time for the last fortnight

We went to a hammam today, where they steamed us like puddings then sizzled us like fajitas, before scrubbing and washing us with buckets of bubbles. Then we had massages and a meal cooked just for us in a garden on a beautiful hillside. At one point the garden was briefly invaded by (wild?) donkeys

I think some people find Kennedy’s genius hard to see if they’ve only seen his work when it’s coloured by someone else. But as a solo artist, in black and white or especially in colour, he’s absolutely one of the best to ever do it, and hugely underrated in my opinion.

I think it’s timing more than anything else. By the time Smith was writing Scarab, Morrison and Milligan already had long DC runs behind them, not to mention Delano, Gaiman (spit) and Ennis who were all well established. The market for what Smith was (perceived as) selling was already crowded.

Of course the trains are fucked. Of COURSE. So now I’ve taken emergency leave for a video call. Honestly, given the stakes, worth it. But still.

Sleeping on a mattress on the floor for five and a half months has been great for the arthritis too

The one upside to it happening now is that we’ll be away for most of the work. Anyway. Quite a week.

The work in the bedroom was scheduled to start twice before, but our upstairs neighbours have been wilfully obstructive, adding nearly two months to the process. It’s great that it’s finally happening, but it’s maddening that it’s taken so long.

We’ve been camping in our living room, surrounded by literally all our stuff, since the beginning of May. It wasn’t SO bad over the summer, because we do have a small backyard that’s nice to spend time in. But still: I work nights and Juliet works from home. Think about the logistics of that.

I’m basically vibrating with worry at this point. Obviously it’s good news that she’s home but I won’t be able to focus properly on anything else until I’ve actually seen her. On top of this, work on fixing our bedroom ceiling finally started on Monday. And we’re flying to Turkey tomorrow.

Going to London today to visit my sister. Shes home from the hospital. This will be the first time I’ve got to see her since the second stroke- I tried to see her last week, but it didn’t work out, as she was being transferred from one hospital to another- so I arranged emergency leave for this.

You have no idea how many terrible jokes I come up with that I DON’T post.

So, you know, I could never be like that myself, but I don’t rush to judgment about it the way I used to.

I think it’s fairly obvious that I wouldn’t even know how to keep politics out of my art, but as I get older and more tired of everything I have come to see the value, especially in music, of creating a space where people can just forget about how fucked up the world is for a while.

Chris Cornell used to talk about not wanting to bring politics into his art, and it’s generally thought that’s why Audioslave didn’t last longer, given who the rest of the band were. AFAIK Cornell was a pretty left wing dude.
