David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 13/10/2026Prompted by the new redesign, I’m excited to find that my spice draw can trace Sainsbury’s packaging history back to last century. 1121

David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I had a small(ish) celebration for a big birthday at the weekend and brought out this trio with the cheese. Rieussec 2010 is an old favourite and incredible value at £170 per 6 in bond - seamless, perfectly balanced. Taylor 1994 elegant and perfumed. Bual 1987 one of the best wines I have drunk. 7170
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 27/09/2026This is a very good Syrah but I think it has been massively over-hyped. You can get this quality at less than half the price in Côte-Rôtie. I regret buying 6 bottles. 5111
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I don’t know, but there used to be a lot of them. Tom seems to have gone in heavily promoting Laithwaites wines recently, which must be a bit soul-destroying. 110
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 03/09/2026How am I only just now hearing about this madness? 220
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 21/08/2026Hitting the sloe gin tonight. We seem to accumulate the stuff from relatives and then drink far too much about once a year. 010
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Guess the village where I’m staying tonight, wine people. 790
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 16/08/2026On the homeward leg of our trip now and on the suggestion of our son we visited this extraordinary unfinished castle folly built by the unfortunate King Ludwig II of Bavaria from 1869 until his sudden death in 1886. Neuschwanstein Castle is quite a thing. 3101
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 15/08/2026In Trento this evening and really wanted to avoid this kind of meat overload scenario. I hopefully won’t make the same mistake at lunch in Innsbruck tomorrow. But the wine was excellent. 490
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Meanwhile, lots of businesses are upset to miss out on this apparently insignificant improvement. 000
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Day Four of the Burnham premiership and the hospitality commentariat are already saying that he is simultaneously not helping enough while spending too much. Maybe have a day off, guys, and stop whingeing at the first PM in forever to show any interest in this industry. 140
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 16/07/2026Using the label scanner that someone posted this morning, you appear to have been released from jail. The two labels have been removed and these benign ones are all that remain 020
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 12/07/2026This is how it started, by the way, not with me lashing out at all. 100
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 11/07/2026I wonder if the English might have found the way to deal with fascists: laugh at them. While foreign-funded frog-faced fascist fraud Farage flees scrutiny by resigning his seat and seeking re-election before the facts are established, his only significant opponent is a man with a bin on his head. 030
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 25/06/2026It looks suspiciously like the photo of their rosé! 010

David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 24/06/2026It’s 9 years to the day since I nipped off to the loo at Glastonbury only to come back and find our children in the care of Doctor Who. 140

David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 15/06/2026BlueSky isn't part of the ban because it isn't seen as harmful. It would be hilarious if teenagers turned it into their new preferred social media. 271

David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 09/06/2026I don't find myself particularly drawn to rosé in general and I would be unlikely to pay £45 retail, but I tasted this blind this morning and was massively impressed. Ripe strawberry and peach flavours, beautiful texture and perfect balance. 4150
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 02/06/2026I mentioned this article from The Economist's Christmas edition to @janetrad.bsky.social and promised to post it on here. I have no idea who wrote it but it gives interesting anthropological and metabolic perspectives. I will pull out a couple of quotes... 152
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 22/05/2026Given that it's available in every supermarket and convenience store in the UK, this is not exactly a new discovery, but I tasted Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon blind in a large Cabernet Sauvignon line-up in April and was hugely impressed. It's got a lot going on for £8.50. 1/2 5121
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 21/05/2026“Bioenergetic winemaking” had passed me by until yesterday at the London Wine Fair. Is it a thing? Or just a Leclerc Briant thing? Lovely champagne, both sea-aged and not sea-aged. 461
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 19/05/2026It’s the link in the first line of my post rather than the preview (it’s also their website). 110

David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 09/05/2026Good to see the Greens wrest control from Lambeth Labour. Though at national level, I'm not sure I would trust Zack Polanski to run a bath. He's just splitting the vote and letting in Reform. 200

David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 12/04/2026This is enormously good news for Europe and the free world. Trump, Putin and Netanyahu have lost their man in the EU. No blocking aid to Ukraine or further EU cooperation and integration. 29421
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 09/04/2026My Better Half regularly advises me on matters relating to popular culture. Today she tells me that BBC soap opera Eastenders prominently features wine drinking pretty much throughout each episode. Let’s hope we hang on to the soap market. 150
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 13/03/2026Tim Atkin’s newsletter just dropped. Good to see some pushback on no alc wine. “My problem with these wines – or the ones that I’ve tasted from Argentina and elsewhere – is that they don’t taste nice. In fact, they are mostly thin, etiolated libations with as little character as they have alcohol.” 1111
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 01/03/2026This is absolutely exquisite. Xavier Goodridge’s Henty Pinot Noir 2021. Pale appearance, really precise, pure strawberry fruit, piercing acidity and fabulous intensity. Sadly, I think I may have bought the last bottle in the UK. 170
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 28/02/2026The Turner Constable exhibition at Tate Britain is a real treat, including paintings from private collections that haven’t been on display for 170 years. It makes clear Turner’s pivotal importance as a precursor for Impressionism and modern art. 150
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 28/02/2026Cooking coq au vin tonight and this is the vin I chose for my coq. I do think it’s one of the best value wines out there. 4111
David Round MW @davidroundmw.bsky.social · 22/02/2026I was looking to mix things up a bit and found the suggestion in this book. People drink Campari and orange, so it made some sense. And yes, I found an unopened bottle behind all the sloe gins and rums we seem to have in our drinks cupboard. 110
