It isn’t unacceptable to say there is extremist Zionism. So maybe they should have said that, rather than telling Jewish people that all Zionism is racist. But they didn’t, presumably because they are bigots.

Yes, I voted for a couple of Greens in the Lambeth Council elections in May and have done so before. But I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole right now. The party represents bigotry and student gesture politics.

But it's not a meaningless resolution to anyone with progressive views and it's not meaningless to Jewish people. It's a hate-filled attack supported by people who routinely hold Jewish people accountable for the actions of Israel. Look, I know how this ends & I don't want to keep repeating myself.

It never got as far as a judge. I don't think we know the truth yet, least of all Trump. Maybe we never will. But bombing Iran was the most fundamentally stupid, self-destructive, damaging thing the US could have done. We'll still be here if your country recovers some semblance of sanity.

Holding Jewish people accountable for the actions of a foreign government on the basis of shared ethnicity or religion would clearly be discrimination. In addition, “Jewish leaders” are by their nature the most politically active and don’t speak for all Jewish people.

Maybe “not being totally understanding of the nuances and complexity of the origins of a noun” (as you put it) makes them ill-qualified to re-define Zionism over the heads of Jewish people. (But I don’t think many people are saying that it’s worse than actual genocide)

Starmer made a manifesto commitment to keep the triple lock, which will be a key part of its funding, for this parliament. Louise Casey is also due to report her recommendations earlier than planned in mid-2027. Burnham deserves credit for being the first PM to grasp the nettle on this.

A care home in the UK can cost over £100k per year, because shareholders expect returns. If you don’t have the money, you have to sell your house. If you don’t have a house, the council pays. Not surprisingly, the NHS is choked with elderly people whose needs are not being met by rotting in wards.

Yes, I went through this with my mother and found it incredibly difficult to work out when she needed to move from live-in care at home to a care home. When people ask how national social care will be funded, they don't seem to understand how much social care currently ties up NHS resources.

Well, I have now drunk 3 bottles over the past couple of years in order to be sure, so it’s not really worth the trouble. The wine is fine, but £70 per bottle is more than I normally spend on treating myself and it just isn’t worth that kind of money.

Anyway, I’m a Londoner and don’t really care for any form of flag-waving, especially the English flag-shaggers in the provinces. So I wish the Scottish people well with their deliberations. Maybe one day a referendum might coincide with one of those brief upswings for independence. But I hope not.
