Seems very reasonable, and I appreciate the restraint despite trends over the last week. I’d personally flip AK and ME Senate races (former as lean D, latter as tossup), but I doubt my reasons are any sounder than yours.

With candidates like Ossoff, Talarico, Hinojosa, and Hamilton (not an exhaustive list!), I feel better about the future of the Democratic Party than I have at any point in my adult life. That includes 2008, when I was excited about Obama but there wasn’t this cohort of great candidates downballot.

Yep. The Texas GOP perfectly captures what the Trump-era GOP writ large has become, but it also shows how this politics is creating space for something better to emerge on the liberal-Democratic side.

The replies and qts to Josh were pretty crazy, but all united by a common demand: "clearly signal 'good' or 'bad.' Do not try to make a complicated point." This I think its a problem when we spend too much time online. We just want to say "agree/disagree" and not think.

Does anybody else have a cursed course? Like, a course that not only never seems to go well but that also feels like it tanks everything else in the semester you teach it?

Me, 8pm Friday: I’ve spent too much time refreshing Bluesky for new polls today. And they’re all upsetting polls from ME. I need to stop. Me, 7am Saturday: I won’t look at any devices this morning and enjoy the day. Me, 11am Saturday: OMG the NYT polls were online for 6 hours and I didn’t know?!?!

The "dignity of manual labor" is always for some other sap to do whereas when given the option, most ppl would choose an "email job" for themselves without hesitation for very obvious reasons

Also, these records always just seem so 🤷‍♂️ in retrospect. Everyone always made a big deal of PA’s half-century of alternating two-term GOP/Democratic governors, and then we defeated Tom Corbett in 2014 and that was that. We’re on the verge of a fourth consecutive term of Democratic governors.

Totally. We lived in Prescott, AZ, for a bit in the early 90s when I was a kid, and I feel like so much of right-wing politics is about trying to recapture what places like that were like (or were imagined to be) 40, 50, 60 years ago.

Brutally partisan yet hammering a point that will absolutely resonate with the pre-MAGA, old-school GOP voters I know in TX. Really well done.

I’ve long assumed that the difference between federal/state office has kept KS Democrats running for senate from assembling the coalitions that have elected Sibelius, Kelly, etc. Adam Hamilton seems determined to make that coalition materialize in a federal race.

This is great to see. Do any smart people out there know why PA-16 hasn’t been added? It seems like it’s in this general tier and a lighter lift than some of these districts.

I’m biased because I think season 3 of Picard (at least the first half of it) was the best Star Trek produced this century, but I think Matalas is one of the few people who get the appeal of the franchise. Getting back to basics with less bloated stories, fewer effects, and fewer gimmicks than SNW.

The ideas here from @terrymatalas.bsky.social are the best recent blueprint for moving the Star Trek franchise forward: TV series with a tighter budget and more episodes à la The Pitt, and a return to TNG-style character-driven episodic storytelling.

I’m embarrassed to admit that until a few years back when I was asked to be an outside reviewer of an application for a European funder, it had never occurred to me that it was even possible anywhere for a humanities project to get six- or seven-figure public funding.

Not to join the pile-on, but <5 weeks before the midterms, Inside Election has GA-Sen at Tilt D, AK-Sen At Tilt R, PA-7 at tossup, OH-9 at Tilt R, OH-Gov at Tilt R, AK-Gov at Lean R, etc., etc. I kind of want to subscribe to learn their logic, but I also wouldn’t pay a site with those ratings.

I miss election twitter of old because: 1) these polls seem too good to be true and I’d like some insight into them; 2) people on this platform tend either to untethered optimism or doom; 3) the other place is just as bad with conservatives’ untethered optimism.

For Dems if things don’t go quite as well as they appear to be going, I’d say OH governor (paging Tim Ryan), ME senate (not dooming tbc) and NY-17. GOP is SC senate, MO-2, and FL governor.

It doesn’t need to translate in to “broad support for Democrats,” that’s a dumb standard. If white rural areas just go back to how they voted in 2012—counties going 58-38 Repub instead of 71-27 Repub—a lot of Repubs will be wiped out.

1. The MI and NH numbers are a relief, esp. from NYT/Siena. 2. ME is concerning, but I’ve long believed that the apt comparison is to RI in 2006: when the rubber meets the road, whatever affinity voters have for Collins will be outweighed by a desire for a D majority (though not by RI margins!).
