Lawyer and dad in Seattle. Always full of bus ideas… …like the revenue-neutral central Seattle network in my pinned post. I like new apartments because I want my city to welcome everyone.

interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”

Seems like if you're going to make a national story out of Hasan Piker, who campaigned a few times with the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, saying Israel causes antisemitism, you should also make a national story out of the favorite intellectual of the US Vice President supporting Hitler.

Le Guin on the idea that there is a secret to getting good at writing.
I will dispose of the first myth as quickly as possible. The “secret” is skill. If you haven’t learned how to do something, the people who have may seem to be magicians, possessors of mysterious secrets. In a fairly simple art, such as making pie crust, there are certain teachable “secrets” of method that lead almost infallibly to good results; but in any complex art, such as housekeeping, piano-playing, clothes-making, or story-writing, there are so many techniques, skills, choices of method, so many variables, so many “secrets,” some teachable and some not, that you can learn them only by methodical, repeated, long-continued practice — in other words, by work.

That style seems like an American import, although we’d probably use a pickup truck instead of a BMW.

They are very old and probably would have been withdrawn by now if not for the vacillations in fleet strategy relating to electrification. They have proven pretty reliable after overcoming a rocky first few years with the BAe systems, though.

This is why I'm so in favor of accessory commercial units. Just getting people in the US used to **walking** for a cup of coffee or a sandwich in the neighborhood may finally do something to rid Americans of our terminal car brain.

Sorry to hear that. Wouldn’t be shocked, unfortunately, if one of the misanthropic grumpy old senior drivers at Bellevue Base did it on purpose.

I think this stop got removed because the only all-day route to serve it, the former ST 554 inbound from the Eastside, was restructured out of existence. To bring it back another route would have to be moved from other stops.

This seems like a pretty major scandal. Sound Transit needs to immediately remove this photo of a candidate for office at a brand new station in the district in which she is currently running.

There is no possible articulable reason for this decision except sheer bloodthirstiness. Something has gone deeply, deeply wrong with the basic moral structure of the American right wing.

My most radical take is that TOD is a scam invented by single-family home preservationists to find a scientifically sound way to concentrate "those people" is specific areas outside of where real people live, and urbanists have embraced it because it's better than nothing.

Speaking of new Jackson Park/Lake City network… it just occurred to me that you could get more frequency cheaply by extending the 72 south from Shoreline South to Northgate via 5th NE and revising the 75 to go to Bitter Lake instead of Northgate, staggered with 77 as closely as schedule allows.

If King County Metro and SDOT can get route 77 up to 10-minute frequency across a wide span, Pinehurst Station will exceed its ridership projections and be a lot more useful than people online are giving it credit for.

The programs I’ve seen up close are on the West Coast: Seattle, Portland, Bay Area cities. Ones with 20%+ mandates almost entirely shut down housing production. Smaller ones may help a bit during peak booms—but, now, here in Seattle we are negotiating IZ relief to keep any production at all going.

This and earlier threads on the council reaction to @mayor.seattle.gov’s budget are illuminating a simply staggering level of incompetence and grandstanding on the part of a majority of the council, but especially CMs Strauss, Saka, and Rivera. These three couldn’t be trusted with a lemonade stand.

Rufo came out of Seattle. It was always pretty obvious that he was in it for the grift and would say anything profitable. I don’t know which prospect is more depressing: that he thinks playing a Nazi will make him money or that somewhere along the line his brain rotted and he became a true believer.

A large part of the fact that I’ve never had a serious bike crash is just sheer good luck. But another part is that I ride angry and paranoid whenever I’m on a street with cars. That’s not great for mental health, and I experience it as serious punishment for not driving.

The reason I like Pinehurst (and Roosevelt is the same) is that the bus can just stop, no waiting at three lights and turning into a driveway necessary.

🏢 David L 🚎 @davidl206.city · 27/09/2026
That’s too bad. That station is like Northgate, designed around cars and forcing all the buses to jump through minute-eating hoops just to get there.

🏢 David L 🚎 @davidl206.city · 27/09/2026
If you like the Roosevelt transfer better the 77 still offers it, and with more frequency than the 522 did. It has a few extra stops but that shouldn’t add more than 2 minutes max.

🏢 David L 🚎 @davidl206.city · 27/09/2026
The one-seat-ride-everywhere network fin Northeast Seattle never had enough frequency to be useful. The gridded network replaced all those half-hourly services with 15- and a few 10-minute services.

🏢 David L 🚎 @davidl206.city · 27/09/2026
But the 77 will be a lot more useful with the station there. It’s a far better way to get to Link than either the 61 from LCW or the 345 from Bitter Lake.

I think this estimate has always been too skeptical of transfer bus passengers. This is a far better place than Northgate to transfer to… well, anywhere nearby.
