The word "genocide" was coined to describe the extermination of 40% of the world's Jews (6 million) in the early 1940s. Today, some call 50,000 civilian deaths in the Gaza war "genocide." Why? Because it so offensive to Jews. Calling Gaza "a genocide" is anti-Semitic. That's the point of the word.

The word “genocide” was coined to describe the systematic murder of 6 million Jews. To mis-use it to describe Israel’s defensive war, that has killed perhaps 1-2% of Gaza’s civilian population, is inherently anti-Semitic. Serious people should stop uttering this ugly smear.
