iOS 27 is finally out via public beta! I wrote on @verge about how much Siri has been impressing me, but why Apple needs to court developers (looking mostly @google) to truly make it work this time. For real on god. www.theverge.com/e/964714 h/t @matthewcassinelli.bsky.social for the interview!

I know Apple probably made notifications come in and out from the left like this in iOS 27 because of the new centered Siri touch target, but I really hope they change it before public release. It’s very awkward.

Here's what the floating Siri Orb looks like in VisionOS 27. It even casts its own environmental lighting!

With respect to Google, the entire reason people are flocking to old digicams over their phones is because HDR does not equal good. Not everything needs to be a mid-tone. Contrast gives an image pop. I feel like I’ve been taking crazy pills since the iPhone 7

Here's my review of the Nikon ZR I did for @theverge.com. Even if R3D NE isn't quite what you get from a real RED, the ZR gets damn close, with a few benefits you won't get from a RED body.

iPhone 17 Pro standard camera processing vs RAW out of a third party app. I'm just saying, if this is what the sensor is getting, standard processing can be SO. MUCH. BETTER. Going to have to make a follow-up video to my Renaissance video.

When I was a kid we had an electronic change organizer machine. I’ve got a lot of change lying around and always get it at the laundramat so I thought I’d look for one for myself. These things all go for like $200 now. There’s no way I’d make up that in organizing the change I have and will have.
