I'm still floored by this Microsoft Copilot ad, the sheer hubris to make claims so obviously false. The target of that ad is not, as it would seem, small business owners. The target is AI skeptics. This is a politician telling the rubes, "I can solve inflation on day one. $1 pizza for everyone!"

This is the ad. Everyone involved in making this is completely out of touch. Side note: had a great slice of pizza the other day which was $7 at an independent pizzeria. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nd08...

Microsoft is running an ad where the elderly owner of an independent pizzeria wants to "bring back the $1 slice" so Copilot looks through his spreadsheets and tells him how to make it profitable. OK sure. "AI is here to help with your magical thinking" is probably as honest an ad as you could make.

Dahlia bulbs are fun gifts because you don't know what you're getting for months. We got these from our friend Lynda and have our first gorgeous bloom!

Chalk this one up to "Everything is gender now." Small dogs are great friends, easier to care for than larger dogs, and they tend to live longer. I've gotten 19+ years of love and companionship with Petunia and 12 with Daisy. None of that has to do with gender. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/09...

I think a lot of people don't understand how much of a bigot she is because she has always needed to dial the transphobia back in ways that billionaires like JKR and Musk do not. She hasn't failed because of bigotry, but because the character flaws that are prerequisites to bigotry.

Transphobes have 2 defining traits: arrogance and lack of empathy. If you can't put yourself in another person's shoes, and wouldn't bother to if you could, then you become incapable of understanding the desires and opinions of others. Bari Weiss is a failure because of hubris and indifference.

I tried ChatGPT and MidJourney early on. Everything topped out at about 85% correct. There are few tasks where that's sufficient accuracy. My current conclusion from QA of another team's vibe-coded project is 85% mediocre, 10% weird, 5% wrong. It just shifts the budget and timeline to QA and fixes.

We've got a neighborhood picnic coming up, so I asked Google's AI for some suggestions. This potluck is going to be one to remember!
Top Served-at-Room-Temperature Poultry Recipes
Picnic Chicken: A crowd-pleasing dish marinated in Dijon mustard, dry white wine, and neutral oil. Baked early in the day, this recipe is explicitly designed to be served at room temperature, which allows the tangy mustard marinade to meld beautifully with the juicy chicken legs. [1] (https://www.ballarddesigns.com/howtodecorate/2014/06/recipe-easy-picnic-chicken/)Chicken Soba Salad & Lettuce Cups: Excellent choice for warm days or meal prep. You can throw together finely diced cooked chicken with scallions, water chestnuts, soy sauce, and sesame oil for crisp lettuce cups, or toss shredded poultry with nutty soba noodles, cucumbers, and a tangy bibimbap sauce. Both are refreshing when served completely unheated. [1] (https://www.cookunity.com/blog/cold-chicken-dishes)Ottolenghi Clementine & Arak Chicken: A legendary dinner party staple featured on The Kitchn. It combines chicken thighs with unpeeled clementine slices, fennel bulbs, anise-flavored arak (or Pernod), brown sugar, and mustard. The complex, sweet, and herbal syrup coats the chicken and tastes spectacular at a comfortable room temperature. I have not seen a single feature announcement besides "foldable." It's not that folding your phone is a benefit, but you can _be seen_ folding your phone. Prestige! They're going to sell a ton of these. None of these buyers will care about features.

It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I think all the fiddling with the clock in the final seconds makes the ending of football and basketball games annoying. But overturning a result a week after the game ends will be a huge pain for the sports bookies, so we should do it more often.

Just statistically speaking, owning a local car dealership is pretty highly correlated with being a shitbag, so once you go from $10 million to $100 million, the odds are approaching near certainty. Beyond that, your fate is sealed.

Billionaire Coinbase CEO Boasts That He Would Never Donate to Charity
In a recent appearance on the Katie Miller Podcast, Billionaire Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong called charity a "net negative on the world."

David Fry @davidfry.com · 04/09/2026
That's a perfect distillation of who Brian Armstrong has become and where our society seems to be going as billionaires capture more of our economy, media, politics, religion and culture. They lack empathy for others so they try to spin empathy as a "net negative." No Brian, you're just a dick.

One of the things that stood out for me in the movie Idiocracy was that things were not just stupid and broken; there was a lack of empathy and conscientiousness. No one cared about other people or followed any social contract. The Carl's Jr. slogan in the movie is "Fuck you, I'm eating."
120
David Fry @davidfry.com · 04/09/2026
Billionaire Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong is just the latest in the right wing billionaire trend of having enough self awareness to recognize his own dark triad personality traits, but also having enough PR juice to try to spin those as beneficial to humanity in some undefined way.

David Fry @davidfry.com · 04/09/2026
In my mind an ideology is mostly just an outlook on how a community or the world could be a better place. In that sense, charities aren't "captured by ideology." Giving to charity is just one way to budget your wealth according to your values. But that assumes you want the world to be better.

I get a bunch of spam by phone and email wanting to buy or fund my business, much of it pretending to be "following up" on some discussion that never happened. It's annoying, and if we had a functioning government the FTC would work a little harder to stop it.
