Now that we have had a bit of rain fungi are starting to appear. I think? this one is known as the Bleeding Bonnet fungi (Mycena sanguinolenta). #fungi #nature #woodland #teesdale #autumn #northpennines #macrophotography #photography #mushroom #toadstool

Set against a green mossy backdrop 2 fungi are isolated. This tallest fungi has droplets of a red liquid that looks like blood on it's gills. Hence the name Bleeding Bonnet Fungi

Trying to create automatic subtitles for a documentary when you have a northern accent is tricky. AI subtitles in Davinci Resolve struggles to understand me. At least some of the suggestions, for example "Durrumbumbria" instead of "Durham Cumbria border" are funny. Have I invented a new county 😂

Now is the perfect time for photographing the woodland floor. One of my favourite leaves are those of the Holly. They are very variable in colour raging from almost black, though browns, gold and turquoise. Next time you pass the evergreen Holly have a look at the fallen leaves underneath. #macro

I just heard a green sandpiper from my open kitchen door. Rushed upstairs to see three land by the pond. Melts my head to think of these birds, which breed in crow nests in taiga forest and winter on hippo pools in Africa, stopping to say hello. Fact will always be more amazing than fiction.

I found this old millstone in a Hamsterley forest recently. It looks as though it was near to completion before the crack was discovered. These were created with hand tools and given how much work went into it, it must have been devastating to have done all that work for nothing. #Teesdale

A Millstone carved out of solid rock lies abandoned in a forest. It has a crack running from the left side right up to the centre hole, which would have been devastating for the workers given they were carved with hand tools and the workers were often only paid for finished stones . Such stones were carved from Roman right times up to the early 1900's.
