Reposted by David BrownCameron Yarde Jnr @cameronyardejnr.bsky.social · 02/10/2026In 1976, Multi-Coloured Swap Shop created the template that BBC Saturday morning kids TV would use, with tweaks for 40+ years. Even a few ITV Saturday morning kids shows like Saturday Banana would use it. I can remember when the number was 01-288-8055. #SwapShop50 4208

David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Hilarious that everyone just wants to be genuinely affectionate towards Ross but he’s so used to aggro that he can’t handle it. #CelebrityTraitors 0223
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Interesting. So the men get to have leadership qualities. But Jerry Hall gets called “bossy”. Got it. #CelebrityTraitors 070
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026That's a nice fact. I remember those Channel 4 rpts at the time and thinking it was weird seeing it there. Did Prime Suspect also get reshown on C4 at one point? 200
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Ooh that is a good one. In my head I was thinking drama, but there's no reason why comedy shouldn't count. 000
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026The scheduling of Waterloo Road is baffling. It ought to be 8pm. It's a really good show, which could be attracting a younger teen audience to the BBC. It's certainly on the radar of my sons. But BBC One treats it like filler. 000
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Do you do that thing in your head where you imagine which network would have made certain streaming shows? So, as you say, Rivals should be ITV. Adolescence should be Channel 4. Anything with Eve Miles on Paramount+ should be Channel 5. 100
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Yeah, it's this that a section of our readership don't seem to like. They enjoy that Star Trek is there on a Sunday evening to watch on ITV1 and don't like then having to go to ITVX to see the rest. They still seem to desire that old communal experience of knowing it's there at a set time each week. 020
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026These days, yes. But the BBC seemed to stop putting imports in its shop window before streaming became a concern. By the way, our readers get annoyed by those "stunt launches" where only the first couple of eps get shown on scheduled TV. We get a quite a few annoyed emails, esp when it's Star Trek. 220
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Re: Morse. Has that style of leisurely, two-hour TV drama that it started now all but disappeared? Midsomer Murders is the last one standing, maybe? Doesn't seem to be another series of Marc Warren's Van der Valk in production, for example. 120
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I think Mad Men was shown around that time, but on BBC Four rather than BBC One. And The Wire too, though that was late-night on BBC Two. So I think Damages was probably one of the final, real primetimers. 210
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026To get you excited for Swap Shop's 50th anniversary tomorrow, here's an edition which ended with Noel covering the corpse of John Craven with a shroud. 33116
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Not even they probably read my Magnum hot-takes. Mind you, the original Magnum PI was relegated to ITV late-night in its final years. I remember having to wait years to see the ep shot in England guest-starring Peter Davison. 120
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Oh yes. I used to preview that week in week out for RT. Even the final season when they changed one of the lead actors. 120
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Oh my god. The Dukes of Hazzard - one of those shows I always watched but never really liked. Did anyone really enjoy it? What was the last 'quality' import shown in primetime on the BBC - Damages, maybe? 310
David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Also, it's better for quality US shows to be shown in a public forum like the BBC rather than be siloed on streamers where you have to pay for them. It benefits all if programmes of cultural worth (wherever they're made) are on easily-accessed BBC channels. Anything else, is kind of unmeritocratic. 3131

David Brown @davidebrown.bsky.social · 28/09/2026It was almost too much. Slightly overwhelming- especially the stuff that Joan H’s granddaughter had kept. I chatted with her for ages and got some real insights into the production of the show. A day very well spent. 000
