I grew up watching movies voraciously through the 70s, so I have a vast pool to choose from - but the film I so actively loathed that I had to leave after half an hour was The Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox, a ‘comedy western’ with Goldie Hawn and George Segal struggling like dinosaurs in a tar pit

I think it might’ve been the other way around, as this look was popular in the mid-70s, and was big in San Francisco’s Castro area - but I’m sure Tom Selleck and his producers knew exactly what they were doing 😏

It's also worth noting that Gaëtan Dugas, the man targeted by the label, spent the last months of his life assisting epidemiologists in contact tracing. There are some understandable reasons a gay man in the early 80s might have been skeptical of medical advice to stop having so much gay sex.

I also have a few special Halloweeny treats from craft stores and from local stores that I hand out at signings and send as gifts if I want a package or an interaction to be especially memorable. I only buy a few of those at a time, and hand them out sparingly over the course of a year.

Most of these things are expensive and have a large-ish minimum order (100, 200, 500). I have promotional postcards and book plates that I sign or personalize, and that can be included with any of my books or used independently - so they are promoting my brand overall, not just one specific title.
